I’ve been noticing Godzilla everywhere lately! It seems like the King of the Monsters is popping up in all sorts of unexpected places, teaming up with characters from different universes. Just recently, I saw he went head-to-head with the Avengers, X-Men, Fantastic Four, and a bunch of other Marvel heroes. Then, he even fought alongside the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles! But honestly, the next crossover they’ve announced? Nobody saw that coming. It’s a truly surprising match-up.
The comic book series Godzilla’s Monsterpiece Theatre Presents brings together the famous monster Godzilla with characters from classic literature. Previous issues have featured Godzilla alongside Sherlock Holmes, the Time Traveler, and even the Great Gatsby. Now, IDW is announcing an even more unexpected pairing: Godzilla will enter the world of Romeo and Juliet! The new comic, arriving on April 8th, will show Juliet and Romeo facing off against the King of the Monsters. And that’s not all – a separate story will also feature Godzilla crossing paths with Robin Hood in Sherwood Forest.

A Godzilla By Any Other Name
To celebrate the launch of the new Romeo & Juliet And Godzilla crossover, writer Adam Tierney expressed his gratitude to Monsterpiece creator Tom Scioli. Tierney praised Scioli’s unique vision for Godzilla, saying it was a privilege to combine that world with Shakespeare’s classic play, and he’s excited for fans to experience the wild story they’ve created.
IDW editor Jake Williams shared his excitement about an upcoming crossover this spring, bringing together the iconic Toho monster and a classic Shakespearean sonnet. He described the script as a brilliantly funny and heartwarming piece of cartooning, saying it made him genuinely smile. Williams believes Godzilla is perfectly suited for comedic parody and delivering laughs.
Godzilla is returning to North American screens next month with the second season of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters on Apple TV+. The new season will feature both Godzilla and Kong, and introduce a massive new monster called “Titan X.” It’s currently unknown if Titan X is a reimagining of a classic monster from the original Japanese films, but early indications suggest it could be bigger than any monster we’ve seen yet. With Godzilla x Kong: Supernova coming to theaters next year, it’s clear the MonsterVerse franchise has big plans for Godzilla and other monsters in the West.
