Good news for fans of Godzilla! The popular limited series Godzilla’s Monsterpiece Theatre by Tony Scioli is getting a sequel, with new stories from a variety of creators. The first issue, Godzilla’s Monsterpiece Theatre Presents: Romeo & Juliet and Godzilla #1, is written by Adam Tierney with art by Sean Peacock. Each issue will also include a 5-page story by Tony Scioli himself.

Tom Scioli, the creator and writer-artist behind Godzilla’s Monsterpiece Theatre, explained the series’ central idea: Godzilla has existed for centuries, possibly even millennia, quietly appearing throughout history and in stories. He also hinted at the back-up stories, which are standalone chapters that contribute to his ongoing Godzilla Meets Robin Hood and His Merry Band of Outlaws story. According to Scioli, readers can expect these stories to take Godzilla to places he’s never been before, both new and old.
Editor Jake Williams remembered being delighted when he first read the script for the original Godzilla’s Monsterpiece Theatre, saying it made him grin from ear to ear. He also noted that recent Godzilla movies haven’t focused much on humor, while Scioli’s series showed that the famous monster can still be a source of great comedy and fun.
What Can Readers Expect From Godzilla’s Monsterpiece Theatre Presents: Romeo & Juliet and Godzilla?
As a huge Godzilla fan, I was really excited to hear what writer Adam Tierney had to say about Tom Scioli’s take on the franchise, especially with their upcoming Romeo & Juliet adaptation! Tierney basically said Scioli has brought something totally new and amazing to Godzilla, and he feels lucky to be a part of it. He’s promising some seriously wild stuff, and honestly, I can’t wait to see it all unfold!
Artist Sean Peacock said it’s exciting to work on such a well-known play, and teased ‘some really insane stuff’ in the upcoming comic book, Godzilla’s Monsterpiece Theatre Presents: Romeo & Juliet and Godzilla #1, which hits stores in April.
Launched in 2024, Godzilla’s Monsterpiece Theatre published three issues, each offering a unique and monstrous reimagining of a classic story. The series featured takes on works like H.G. Wells’ The Time Machine and Bram Stoker’s Dracula, and also included appearances by famous characters such as Sherlock Holmes and Jay Gatsby.
IDW Publishing’s first issue of Godzilla’s Monsterpiece Theatre, featuring a unique take on Romeo & Juliet with Godzilla, will be available for purchase on April 8th.
