Edgar Wright’s reimagining of The Running Man is a hidden standout from 2025, and it’s gaining popularity now that it’s available on Paramount+. This thrilling adaptation of the Stephen King novel is quickly climbing the streaming charts, and with its impressive cast, there’s plenty to enjoy. Interestingly, one of the film’s stars also appeared in a critically acclaimed thriller from 2024, which became available to stream for free in January.
Katy O’Brian is becoming well-known for her work in thriller films. Before starring as Jenni Laughlin in The Running Man, she appeared alongside Kristen Stewart in Love Lives Bleeding, a romantic thriller now available to stream on Tubi. Set in 1989, the film features O’Brian as Jackie, an up-and-coming bodybuilder who develops a relationship with Lou (Stewart), a private gym manager. Their romance quickly turns dangerous as they become entangled with Lou’s criminal family.
Love Lies Bleeding Was One of 2024’s Best Thrillers
Despite a limited release in theaters and a worldwide gross of around $12.5 million, Love Lies Bleeding performed well for an independent film. While it didn’t reach the box office heights of other indie hits like Longlegs and Civil War, the movie was a critical success. It proved that independent films remain important for innovative and daring storytelling. Love Lies Bleeding received a 94% “Certified Fresh” rating on Rotten Tomatoes and an 81% audience score, continuing A24’s reputation for producing acclaimed movies.
Okay, so I just finished watching Love Lies Bleeding, and wow. Critics weren’t kidding when they called it a sweaty, dusty, pulp masterpiece – it really is! It’s a seriously ambitious, hot-blooded crime story, and honestly, one of the best thrillers I’ve seen all year. It throws everything at the wall – neo-noir vibes, a really intense queer romance, some surreal moments, even body horror – and somehow it all works, creating this totally immersive and unforgettable experience. Plus, it’s got that classic A24 visual style, really bringing the gritty 1980s New Mexico setting to life, and the soundtrack is perfect – all killer synth. Kristen Stewart and Mary O’Brian are incredible together, their chemistry is electric. It’s still pretty new, but Love Lies Bleeding has everything it needs – that over-the-top, grimy, darkly funny vibe – to become a real cult classic down the line.
