Every Jujutsu Kaisen Opening Theme So Far, Ranked

With the return of Jujutsu Kaisen for Season 3 comes a brand new opening theme, and the show is already known for having some of the best. The anime consistently features incredible animation, which extends to its opening sequences. Each opening is paired with a fantastic song, though some are more instantly memorable than others. What all the themes have in common is their ability to draw viewers into the story, making sure each episode starts with an impressive and exciting introduction.

If you like anime openings with exciting visuals and action, you’ll love the ones in Jujutsu Kaisen. They’re full of big fights, but also include subtle details for fans of the manga and quieter, character-focused scenes. It’s rare to find openings that capture the essence of a story as effectively as these do. While all of JJK‘s openings are strong, a few are particularly memorable.

5) “Kaikai Kitan” by Eve (Season 1, Opening 1)

Eve’s “Kaikai Kitan” was the first opening theme for Jujutsu Kaisen Season 1, and it made a great first impression – although the show’s other openings are even better. It’s a catchy song that perfectly captures the mix of lightheartedness and intensity that defines Jujutsu Kaisen. For many fans, it also brings back fond memories of first discovering the series.

The animation in this opening is well-done, but it isn’t as captivating as the openings that follow. This is likely because its main purpose is to introduce the main characters, so it largely consists of shots of them standing or moving around. While there’s some action, it doesn’t compare to the more intense moments later in the first season. Consequently, the brief fight scenes don’t make a strong impression. However, the opening does earn credit for subtly hinting at a major plot twist later in Jujutsu Kaisen.

4) “Vivid Vice” by Who-ya Extended (Season 1, Opening 2)

The second opening theme for Jujutsu Kaisen is very close in quality to the first. Both “Vivid Vice” by Who-ya Extended and “Kaikai Katan” have a similar energetic sound, and both perfectly capture the feeling of the anime’s early episodes. However, I think “Kaikai Katan” is slightly better because the music builds slowly, and the animation gets more intense as the song progresses.

The second opening of Jujutsu Kaisen Season 1 makes a strong impression right from the beginning, particularly with its memorable funeral procession. This imagery is especially impactful after Junpei’s death, and it effectively conveys that no character is secure. While the initial animation is great, the action sequences at the end are what truly make this opening stand out, showcasing key moments and relationships from the season. It doesn’t rank higher only because the later opening themes have more unique sound and animation styles.

3) “AIZO” by King Gnu (Season 3, Opening 1)

The opening sequence for Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3 is truly exceptional, easily surpassing the previous two openings. King Gnu’s song, “AIZO,” is difficult to put into words – it’s both energetic and chaotic, with a dark mood that perfectly matches the Culling Game arc. While the song is great on its own, it’s the animation that truly sets this opening apart. It’s packed with details, and you’ll likely need multiple viewings to fully appreciate everything it offers.

Watch Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3’s opening here:

The opening sequence is visually striking, starting with the first scenes of Yuta and Itadori together and featuring a unique, painted style. It embraces the series’ strangeness while hinting at important future events. The attention to detail is exceptional, making it a standout anime opening. While it might climb higher in my ranking with repeated viewings, it currently falls just short of the openings from Season 2. Although the animation isn’t quite as unique, it feels more consistent with the overall tone and upcoming story arcs.

2) “SPECIALZ” by King Gnu (Season 2, Opening 2)

The second opening theme for Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2, again by King Gnu, is a great fit for the intense Shibuya Incident arc. The song, “SPECIALZ,” immediately signals that difficult times are ahead for the characters, and the dark imagery of them walking towards their destinies perfectly matches the music’s tone. The use of black and red colors hints at the upcoming violence, making this opening stand out from the rest of the series. Throughout the theme, you’ll also find subtle clues about future events.

You’ll definitely want to rewatch this opening – the animation is incredibly memorable, and certain scenes, like Mahito in the subway and Itadori’s transformation into Sukuna, are particularly striking. The song, “SPECIALZ,” is also super catchy and will stay with you. It’s only outdone by one other Jujutsu Kaisen opening, which has a completely different vibe.

1) “Ao No Sumika” by Tatsuya Kitani (Season 2, Opening 1)

The second opening theme for Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 is notably dark, but the first theme is special for being the opposite. “Ao No Sumika” is remarkably cheerful, and its animation is much more lively and enjoyable than anything else in the season. Although this tone might seem unusual for the series, it actually suits the storyline it introduces. Since the season explores Gojo and Geto’s past, the theme’s nostalgic feel perfectly captures their happier moments together.

Knowing this friendship is destined to fall apart makes this story particularly heartbreaking, despite its generally cheerful tone. Beyond the emotional impact, it’s also beautifully animated and features a really memorable song. It’s still the best opening theme Jujutsu Kaisen has produced, though the second half of Season 3 might challenge that.
