As a huge Game of Thrones fan, I really enjoyed how ‘A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms’ approached things differently. Instead of another massive, sprawling epic, it told a more intimate story – a smaller-scale adventure within the world we already know and love. It felt like a nice change of pace while still giving us that familiar Westeros vibe.
Forget the typical power struggles and royal scheming. This story focuses on an exciting adventure and the surprising bond between Ser Duncan the Tall, played by Peter Claffey, and his young companion, Egg, played by Dexter Sol Ansell.
Known as ‘Dunk and Egg’ in George R.R. Martin’s stories, the knight and his young companion are now appearing in a live-action series called A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, which many fans are calling the best content related to the world of ‘Game of Thrones’ in years.
Enjoying the show and dreaming of your own adventure? If you’re in the UK, you’ll be happy to know you can soon experience the world of Westeros for yourself! Here’s where ‘A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms’ was filmed.
Where was A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms filmed?

As a huge fan of that world, I was really excited to learn that HBO’s new series, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, was mostly filmed in Belfast, Northern Ireland. It’s cool that they went back to the same location where so much of Game of Thrones was made – it feels like coming home to that universe!
The show first started filming in 2010 and used the Paint Hall Studios in Belfast’s Titanic Quarter as its main location, alongside various other spots throughout Northern Ireland and beyond.
The popular fantasy series greatly increased tourism to the area, with fans eager to visit the actual places featured in the show and inspired by George R.R. Martin’s books.
“A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms” feels like a return to form, filmed once again at the large Titanic Quarter studios and even featuring some of the original crew, as noted by BBC Culture.
Good news for fans of Westeros! It looks like Belfast will remain a hub for the Game of Thrones universe for a while yet. As of December 2025, they’re currently shooting the second season of ‘A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms’ in and around the city, so we can expect to see more of Northern Ireland’s beautiful landscapes on our screens.
As a huge fan of this series, I was thrilled to hear HBO renewed it so far ahead of the premiere – it really showed how much faith they have in this new version. And honestly, judging by the first reviews, it looks like that confidence was well-placed! Everything points to this being something special.
With the new Game of Thrones series, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, filming again in Northern Ireland, the prequel House of the Dragon feels different from the rest of the franchise.
This is the only Game of Thrones series filmed mainly in England. Even the planned spin-off starring Naomi Watts, which was ultimately cancelled after filming a pilot, used Northern Ireland as its primary location.
A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms premieres on Sky Atlantic and NOW on Monday 19th January 2026.
