The Biggest Horror Franchise of All-Time Just Confirmed When The Next Movie Is Being Released

As a huge horror fan, I was thrilled to hear when the next movie in The Conjuring universe is coming out! It all started back in 2013 with the first film, and it’s grown into this massive franchise with sequels, prequels, and spin-offs. What I love is that these movies are ‘based on’ the real-life investigations of Ed and Lorraine Warren – they really dig into some of their most famous cases and other spooky things they encountered. This next one will be another trip back in time, acting as a prequel to everything we’ve already seen.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Warner Bros. has announced several new movies coming to theaters. These include The Great Beyond, a film by J.J. Abrams, scheduled for November 13th, Panic Carefully from Mr. Robot creator Sam Esmail on February 26, 2027, and a prequel to The Conjuring, titled The Conjuring: First Communion, which will be released on September 10, 2027.

Rodrigue Huart will direct the next Conjuring film, working from a screenplay by Richard Naing and Ian Goldberg. While the actors haven’t been announced yet, James Wan and Peter Safran will still produce. This new movie comes after The Conjuring: Last Rites, which came out in September 2025.

What Does the Future Hold For The Conjuring?

When The Conjuring: Last Rites came out in September 2025, many believed it would be the last film in the series. Marketing suggested it would conclude the story of Ed and Lorraine Warren, leaving no obvious path forward. However, the film’s success quickly showed the studio had other plans. Despite a $55 million budget, The Conjuring: Last Rites grossed $494.7 million worldwide, demonstrating the franchise still had plenty of potential.

The Conjuring: Last Rites had a very successful opening weekend, earning $84 million domestically – the fourth-highest September weekend ever and the third-highest for any horror movie. This makes it the most successful film in the Conjuring Universe, surpassing The Nun by $128 million. It also outperformed the original Conjuring film domestically, earning $40 million more.

Following the success of the latest film, Warner Bros. has announced a new prequel called The Conjuring: First Communion. This will be the fifth movie expanding on the Conjuring universe’s backstory, joining the two Nun films and the two Annabelle films. However, it’s unique because it’s the first prequel directly focused on the main Conjuring story.
