PlayStation 5 owners have a chance to snag a highly-rated first-person shooter for only $6 right now! You don’t need a PlayStation Plus subscription to get the deal, though the game is also available as part of the PS Plus Extra and Premium services. This offer ends on January 22nd – in just five days – after which the game’s price will jump from $5.99 back to $39.99.
MachineGames and Bethesda’s Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus, released in 2017 for PlayStation 4, is a highly acclaimed first-person shooter and a sequel to 2014’s Wolfenstein: The New Order. It was considered one of the best games of its year, earning four nominations at The Game Awards, including winning Best Action Game, and achieving an 87 score on Metacritic. What sets it apart from many other shooters is its focus on a strong single-player campaign, widely considered one of the best in the genre – it doesn’t offer multiplayer.
One of the Great Single-Player First-Person Shooters
Honestly, really good single-player first-person shooter campaigns are rare these days – most games focus on multiplayer. That’s why Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus always stands out to me. It’s still the most recent main Wolfenstein game, which is wild considering it came out nine years ago, but thankfully it sounds like a new one is finally on the way! Because of that, I think now is the perfect time to get into the series.
If you’re interested in the 2017 Wolfenstein game, it’s also worth playing the 2014 game, as they tell a connected story and the earlier title is quite enjoyable. However, neither of those are currently discounted; they both cost $19.99 on the PlayStation Store. The 2019 spin-off, Wolfenstein: Youngblood, is on sale with a Deluxe Edition for just $6, but it’s not recommended. It received poor reviews and doesn’t seem likely to contribute to the main storyline in the future.
Unlikely to Ever Be Cheaper
It’s been nearly ten years since the game came out in 2017, and this is the lowest price we’ve ever seen it on the PlayStation Store, so we doubt it will drop further. While Bethesda has offered much bigger discounts in the past – up to 90% – it might become just a little cheaper at some point.
