Buffy the Vampire Slayer Fan Finally Creates the Animated Spin-off That We Wish Was Real

Fans are eagerly awaiting the return of Buffy the Vampire Slayer later this year with a new revival. But what if the revival was even bigger? One fan created a concept for an animated spin-off featuring the same characters in fresh, new storylines, and it’s getting a lot of attention – many wish it were actually happening!

Trevor Carlee posted a trailer on Instagram for an animated “What If…?”-style series based on “Buffy the Vampire Slayer.” Created in Blender, the trailer shows Buffy jumping between different realities with familiar faces like Faith and Kendra teaming up, plus quick looks at Xander, Willow, Angel, and others. You can watch the trailer below!

Carlee, co-host of the “Another Buffy Podcast,” created an animated trailer based on alternate storylines she and Kristin have discussed. Over the past few years, they’ve been brainstorming “What If?”-style episodes for Buffy, and Carlee brought those ideas to life with this fan-made trailer. She created the entire animation herself using Blender and is gauging interest in a potential official “Buffy What If?” series. To be clear, this is a fun project she made, not an official production.

The Future of Buffy The Vampire Slayer Is Extremely Promising

The Buffy the Vampire Slayer universe, which had been quiet for several years aside from its comic books, is becoming very active again. 2026 looks like it will be a fantastic year for dedicated fans, and a great opportunity for newcomers to discover what makes the series so popular.

Fans are eagerly awaiting the live-action revival of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, now titled Buffy the Vampire Slayer: New Sunnydale. Sarah Michelle Gellar will reprise her iconic role as Buffy Summers, and the pilot episode will be directed by Chloe Zhao, bringing significant talent to the project. The new series will feature Buffy mentoring a new Slayer named Nova, which is why Gellar views it not as a remake, but as a continuation of the original story.

Sarah Michelle Gellar explained that the new series isn’t a sequel or a complete restart of ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer,’ but rather a continuation of the story. It will explore what life looks like for Buffy now, and how the world has changed both with and without her presence. It won’t immediately bring back all the original characters. Gellar emphasized this idea is why the title, ‘Buffy: New Sunnydale,’ was important – it’s still Buffy’s story, but in a new and evolving context, as she shared on the Shut Up Evan Podcast.

Beyond television, the world of comic books is also seeing some exciting changes. Last year, it was announced that the characters Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel had moved to Dynamite Entertainment, with plans for new comic book series for both. Even more exciting, acclaimed writer Kelly Thompson will be writing both series, and they’ll share a connected storyline. While there are no release dates for either the Buffy series on Hulu or these new comics yet, fans are hoping to hear more details soon.
