2025 proved to be a successful year, and recent data shows that ‘Havoc,’ a previously overlooked action film, performed exceptionally well on Netflix. It ranked among the platform’s most popular movies that year.
According to data from FlixPatrol and Netflix, the movie Havoc ranked as the 7th most-watched title on Netflix in the first half of 2025 (January-June). While Netflix hasn’t released full-year numbers yet, Havoc garnered 154.9 million hours of viewing time and attracted 86.9 million viewers. Remarkably, it achieved this despite being released on April 25th, meaning it only had data counted for a little over two months of that six-month period.
Havoc features Tom Hardy as Patrick Walker, a world-weary detective navigating the dangerous criminal landscape of his city. When a drug deal turns sour, Walker becomes the target of several powerful and ruthless groups – a criminal organization, a corrupt politician, and even some of his colleagues on the police force.
Walker quickly becomes entangled in a mission to save the troubled son of a politician, who is also connected to a dangerous drug operation. As Walker investigates, he uncovers a complex network of corruption and conspiracy. The series, Havoc, features Forest Whitaker, Jessie Mei Li (known from Shadow and Bone), Justin Cornwell (The Umbrella Academy), and more, alongside star Hardy.
Many viewers might be surprised to learn that Havoc is becoming one of Netflix’s most popular movies for 2025. While critics generally liked the film—giving it a 64% rating on Rotten Tomatoes—audiences haven’t been as impressed, with a user score of only 35% based on over 1,000 reviews.
Critics haven’t been kind to the film Havoc. One review joked that it truly deserved its name, describing it as pointlessly violent and lacking any positive aspects. Another viewer echoed this sentiment, saying it was only 5% thrilling and 95% focused on gore.
Despite some criticism that Havoc feels similar to director Gareth Evans’ previous work, Rotten Tomatoes notes that fans of his unique action style will likely still enjoy it.
2025 Saw Tom Hardy Topping the Charts in Both Movies & TV
Besides his work on Havoc, Tom Hardy had another successful project in 2025: a starring role in the Paramount+ series . He played Harry Da Souza, a man who handles problems for a powerful crime family. When this family gets into a war with a rival mob, the consequences go beyond just the criminal underworld. The series, which premiered on March 30, 2025, also featured Pierce Brosnan, Helen Mirren, and Paddy Considine.
I have to say, MobLand really surprised me this year – it quickly became a standout show, earning a solid 76% score on Rotten Tomatoes after its first season. What really grabbed me, and a lot of other critics, was Hardy’s performance; it was truly stylish and memorable. And the good news keeps coming – a second season was greenlit back in June of 2025, though we’re still waiting for a release date, unfortunately.
Tom Hardy’s Havoc is now streaming on Netflix.
