2026 is looking like another fantastic year for television! We’ve already seen the return of popular shows like The Pitt (Season 2), His & Hers, and The Traitors (Season 4), and a wide variety of new and returning series are coming to both network TV and streaming platforms. From FX’s The Beauty to Hulu’s Buffy the Vampire Slayer: New Sunnydale, there’s something for everyone. And the wait is over for one of the year’s most talked-about shows, which is premiering today on HBO and HBO Max.
Prepare to return to the world of Westeros with the newest addition to George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire saga. The Game of Thrones prequel, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, will premiere on HBO and HBO Max on January 18th at 10 p.m. Eastern Time. Based on the Tales of Dunk and Egg novellas, the series is set a century before the events of Game of Thrones, during the reign of the Targaryen dynasty. It follows the adventures of Ser Duncan the Tall, a wandering knight, and his young squire, Egg. This series will have six episodes, each lasting roughly 30 to 45 minutes – shorter than the hour-long episodes of Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon.

Good news for fans of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: HBO has renewed the show for a second season! While a release date isn’t set yet, Season 2 is expected in 2027. The show has plenty of source material to work with, as it’s based on a series of three books. Season 2 will adapt The Sworn Sword, and if the show continues, a third season could cover The Mystery Knight.
The new series, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, will debut on HBO and HBO Max at 10 p.m. Eastern Time on January 18th. Each week, a new episode will be released on Sundays, with the first season concluding on February 22nd.
