7 More Canceled Superhero TV Shows That Deserve A Reboot

Superhero stories remain incredibly popular, with big franchises like Marvel and DC consistently drawing large audiences, and even original stories finding success. We enjoy these stories because they’re simply entertaining. They often present classic battles between good and evil, but can also explore complicated questions about right and wrong. Superhero stories have thrived in many different formats, including television, where several excellent shows have helped define the genre for today’s viewers. However, not every superhero TV show manages to reach the same level of success as the biggest hits.

Lots of superhero shows have been cancelled over time. We’ve talked about some that deserve a second chance, but there are actually many more! The genre is full of good shows that ended too soon, and could be successfully revived because their stories weren’t fully explored.

7) No Ordinary Family (2010-2011)

While not groundbreaking, the TV show No Ordinary Family offered a fun, live-action superhero story similar to the movie The Incredibles. The show followed the Powells, an average family who gained superpowers after a plane crash in the Amazon. Despite its potential, it was unfortunately cancelled after just one season. A reboot could address the show’s weaknesses and create a charming family drama with a superhero twist.

6) Birds of Prey (2002-2003)

I really loved Birds of Prey and I was so bummed it didn’t get more than one season. It starred Huntress, Oracle, and Black Canary, and it was a big deal at the time to have a superhero show led entirely by women. What’s even cooler is they were planning to feature Harley Quinn as a main character way before she became super popular! Thinking about it now, a reboot with a fresh cast and some real support from the studio could be amazing. It felt like a show that was ahead of its time, and I honestly think it would kill it today.

5) Young Justice (2010-2022)

Animated superhero shows often don’t get as much recognition as live-action ones, but Young Justice is a truly exceptional example of the genre, brilliantly realizing its initial concept. The show, which follows the teenage heroes of the DC Universe, originally aired for two seasons before being cancelled. However, strong fan demand led to a two-season revival. Given its lasting popularity, a reboot – maybe set within the new DC Universe – could be very successful.

4) The Tomorrow People (2013-2014)

Originally based on a little-known 1970s science fiction series, The Tomorrow People only lasted one season before being canceled. While reviews were mixed, the show’s premise – about young people developing psychic abilities through evolution – had a lot of promise. The core idea is flexible enough to support a compelling show, and with the right creative direction and actors, The Tomorrow People could be successfully revived in the future.

3) Swamp Thing (2019)

Despite being cancelled after just 10 episodes, the Swamp Thing series demonstrated the character’s potential for a successful live-action adaptation. The show embraced its horror roots and is often cited as a superhero series that ended prematurely. Now, with a new start for DC Universe, rebooting Swamp Thing would be a great opportunity – as long as the new series retains what made the 2019 version so strong.

2) The Gifted (2017-2019)

Although The Gifted on Fox didn’t immediately become a huge hit, it built a dedicated following over its two seasons and deserved to continue. Many fans felt its cancellation was premature, especially because its connection to the Marvel universe attracted viewers without needing to strictly adhere to existing storylines. The show offered a fresh take on the X-Men concept by focusing on a family protecting their children after they develop mutant powers. Now that the Marvel Cinematic Universe is introducing its own mutant stories, it might be a good time to revisit The Gifted with a reboot.

1) Teen Titans (2003-2006)

Twenty years after it finished airing, Teen Titans is still widely considered one of the greatest animated DC series ever made. The show was praised for its focus on a core group of young heroes, alongside appearances from other DC characters. Its unique animation style, combined with serious storylines and humor, was a big hit with audiences. Many fans are hoping for a revival or reboot, as the show’s take on these DC characters and their stories remains a standout in the superhero genre.
