Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump has ended one of its series, signaling a fresh start for the magazine and its creators. This means new manga will be given a chance to run, while some existing ones will be cut short. This cancellation marks the beginning of a period of change and new debuts for the popular magazine.
Last year, ten series were cancelled in Shonen Jump, and while some long-running titles finished their stories, unfortunately, Otr of the Flame by Yuki Kawaguchi was cut short. The latest chapter confirmed it was the last, bringing the story to an abrupt end. Fans had suspected this might happen, as the final battle started after only 30 chapters, but it’s still disappointing for those who wanted the manga to continue much longer.
Otr of the Flame Officially Cancelled With Shonen Jump

The manga series Otr of the Flame has concluded after 34 chapters, as confirmed with the release of the latest installment. Rumors of the cancellation circulated earlier this week, and are now official. The story had been moving quickly towards its ending, introducing elemental spirits and beginning a final battle with the return of the Evil King. While disappointing, the cancellation isn’t unexpected for those who followed the series.
Unfortunately, Otr of the Flame didn’t have a very successful run. The final chapter rushes through what could have been a much more impressive final battle, and quickly wraps up Otr’s story with a brief farewell to the Flame Spirit before he returns to normal life. It’s a somewhat disappointing ending to a series with potential, and marks the second time a project by creator Yuka Kawaguchi has been cut short by Shonen Jump magazine.
What’s Next for Otr of the Flame’s Creator?

Kawaguchi’s latest series, Otr of the Flame, had a more respectful ending than their previous work, The Hunter’s Guild: Red Hood, which ended with the author openly making fun of its cancellation before it could finish. While Otr of the Flame’s ending was better, it’s still disappointing for the creator that none of their series have really gained popularity. Hopefully, their next project will be a success.
Despite having a unique magic system, interesting characters, and a grand fantasy world, Otr of the Flame didn’t resonate with readers and was quickly predicted to be cancelled. It struggled to gain traction in the following weeks and ultimately couldn’t overcome that initial negative impression. Now, as Shonen Jump looks ahead to 2026, fans are eager to see what new series the magazine will offer.
