If you liked seeing classic Sony games like Freedom Wars: Remastered and Patapon 1 + 2 Replay return, you might be happy to hear there could be more revivals coming. Sony Interactive Entertainment is currently hiring for a Release Manager position, and the job description suggests they’ll be working with PlayStation Studios and teams around the world – likely on bringing older titles back to life.
As a big fan, I was so excited to learn the job is just a five-minute walk from Monzen-Nakacho Station! That’s where Bandai Namco Studios – and their amazing GYAAR Studio Base – are located. GYAAR Studio is really cool because they support indie game developers. They even run a contest where creators can win up to 100 million Yen in funding, plus get access to the studio, equipment, and help from other developers. It’s a fantastic opportunity!
Okay, so it’s a bit of a long shot, but there aren’t a ton of big game studios around here. I’m thinking Sony wouldn’t necessarily hire the winners of GYAAR’s competition, but maybe work with them to let indie devs or smaller teams use some of GYAAR’s older game ideas. Even the company that made Pataton 1 + 2 Replay, SAS CO., LTD., is pretty small – they also did Theatrhythm Final Fantasy All-Star Carnival, which wasn’t a huge blockbuster either.
Sony has many older game series they could bring back. Titles like PaRappa the Rapper, LocoRoco, and Ape Escape are just a few possibilities. We’ll keep you updated on any news!
