PS5 Controller Change Gives It a Major Upgrade

The PS5 controller, called the DualSense, represents a significant improvement over the older DualShock. It’s a more advanced piece of technology than the Xbox Series X controller. While adding less tech could reduce the controller’s cost (though Sony likely wouldn’t lower the price), it would definitely improve battery life. Currently, the DualSense’s battery doesn’t last very long, but there are settings you can adjust to help extend it.

If you’re looking to extend the battery life of your PlayStation 5’s DualSense controller, there’s a simple setting you can adjust. Go to the PS5’s System Settings, then select Power Saving. From there, change the ‘Set Time Until Controllers Turn Off’ option to ‘After 10 Minutes.’ It’s strange this isn’t the default setting – some speculate it’s to encourage more controller purchases. However, Sony has offered this option on the PS4 and PS3 as well, it just isn’t enabled by default.

Leaving the PS5 Idle

If you’re constantly playing on your PS5 and never leave it sitting idle, this feature will definitely help. While we don’t have exact data on how much battery life it saves over time, it’s a harmless setting that all PS5 and PS5 Pro owners should enable.

This feature has been available on the PS5 since its release in 2020, but surprisingly, many users aren’t aware of it. Most people only adjust settings when they have a specific problem to fix, so they rarely explore all the options. You’d likely only discover this if you actively looked through the settings or read about it online.
