Jujutsu Kaisen Disappoints With Latest Episode

The new season of Jujutsu Kaisen is finally here, picking up after the devastating events of the Shibuya Incident. That incident was a huge tragedy for Tokyo, resulting in thousands of civilian deaths and the near collapse of the entire jujutsu world. The Elders, desperate to maintain control, have falsely accused Satoru Gojo of being a traitor and are once again trying to have Yuji Itadori executed. The season began with a special hour-long premiere featuring the first two episodes, but recent episodes haven’t received the same overwhelmingly positive response from fans.

When it first aired on January 15, 2026, the episode received a 7.7 rating on IMDb. It has since slightly increased to 7.8, but remains one of the lowest-rated episodes of the series. Few Jujutsu Kaisen episodes have scored below 8, with Season 1, Episode 3 and Season 2, Episode 6 being examples. Adding to this, the recent episode received nearly 3,000 dislikes on Crunchyroll – a much higher number than the premiere episodes received.

Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3 Episode 3 Sets Up The Stage For Culling Game

Jujutsu Kaisen is at its best during exciting fight scenes, thanks to the compelling story by Gege Akutami and MAPPA’s fantastic animation. While action-packed episodes consistently resonate with fans, slower moments haven’t received the same level of attention. Following Yuta Okkotsu’s explanation for attacking Yuji, he teams up with other sorcerers like Yuki Tsukumo and Maki Zenin to find a way to save Gojo from the Prison Realm. However, because the Prison Realm is a particularly powerful cursed object, rescuing Gojo will prove to be a greater challenge than they anticipate.

Information about this mysterious object is scarce, leading students and Choso to seek out Master Tengen at the Tomb of the Star Corridor. Tengen revealed everything they needed to know about the Prison Realm and explained how the Culling Game works. This Culling Game is a dangerous, battle royale-style competition created by Kenjaku both for entertainment and to further his own plans.

All sorcerers, even those who are new or are possessed by ancient spirits, must compete in the Culling Game. This episode spent a lot of time explaining the game’s complicated rules, which might explain why it didn’t get great ratings. However, the next episode promises to be one of the best yet, focusing on the story of Maki Zenin.
