James Gunn enjoys interacting with fans online, and recently shared some exciting news about the future of the DC Universe – potentially in 2027. During a Q&A session on Threads, Gunn addressed many fan questions and rumors. He confirmed there’s no news on who will play Wonder Woman, and that a new Batman movie won’t happen until after The Batman 2 is released. He also playfully admitted he doesn’t know why Grant Gustin dyed his hair, responding to speculation that Gustin might reprise his role as The Flash. But the biggest reveal came when Gunn mentioned a project that hasn’t been widely discussed since early 2026.
I was following James Gunn’s Q&A on Threads, and someone was really pushy, asking what DC projects we’d see in 2027. They even complained that it sounded like only one thing was planned! Honestly, it felt a little entitled to demand info so far in advance, knowing projects are always being worked on behind the scenes. But Gunn handled it perfectly – he just casually dropped, “Uhhhhh The Batman 2 bro.” It was such a funny and perfect response!
The discussion sparked some comments suggesting that because The Batman 2 exists outside of the main DC Universe, it shouldn’t be considered. Gunn found this idea absurd and explained to fans how Warner Bros. plans its movie releases. He clarified that he can’t predict release dates until a script is finalized, stating, “I’m dependent on when there’s an actionable script ready.” He also mentioned they’re already far into production on The Batman 2 and didn’t want to create confusion with announcements about the new DCU before that film’s release. Ultimately, Gunn emphasized that he doesn’t want two Batman movies released in the same year.
Then came the exciting announcement: James Gunn revealed that a second season of Creature Commandos could arrive in 2027. When someone pointed out that the season was currently in production, Gunn simply replied, “CC and more, yes,” hinting at additional content as well.
What Is Coming Out In 2027 From DCU?

Until James Gunn officially announces DCU plans, it’s impossible to know what to expect in 2027. While fan sites often share rumors, Gunn himself has pointed out that with enough speculation, some guesses are bound to be correct. However, he definitively stated that Season 2 of Creature Commandos is in development, and this was the first time he suggested it could potentially be released in 2027.
Currently, only Superman: Man of Tomorrow and The Batman 2 are confirmed for theatrical release by 2027, though smaller projects could be approved for faster production. However, we might see animated shows arrive sooner, like Season 2 of Creature Commandos. James Gunn has also hinted at an animated series for Blue Beetle and a live-action Jimmy Olsen show created by the team behind American Vandal, both of which could be ready by 2027.
Besides the shows already announced, there’s talk of an animated Mister Miracle series potentially in the works. A Huntress animated show was also mentioned, but it doesn’t seem likely to happen, as James Gunn hasn’t confirmed anything. Season 2 of Creature Commandos is looking promising for 2027, and it will likely be followed by either a live-action Jimmy Olsen show or a continuation of Blue Beetle. As always, it’s best to wait for official confirmation from James Gunn before believing any rumors, just like he shared today.
