So, Sony announced last year that things are changing with PS Plus, starting this month. Basically, they’re not really going to be focusing on giving us free PS4 games every month anymore. It was cool while it lasted, but it looks like they’re shifting gears.
In a January 2025 blog post, Sony announced that PS4 games will become less common as perks for PlayStation Plus members. Starting in January 2026, they’ll only be included in the monthly game selections and Game Catalog on occasion. However, Sony might still offer some games that work on both PS4 and PS5 after that date.
The recent shift in strategy is now active, but the PlayStation Plus Essential and Extra game selections for this month don’t really reflect it.
When the new PlayStation Plus Essential games were added in January 2026, Disney Epic Mickey: Rebrushed and Core Keeper were available on both PS4 and PS5. Need for Speed Unbound was the only title exclusive to PS5.
Tomorrow, PlayStation Plus Extra will be adding nine games, and all but one are available on both PS4 and PS5. The only game not on PS4 is A Quiet Place: The Road Ahead, while titles like Resident Evil Village and Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth will be playable on both consoles.
Sony is gradually changing what games you get with your PlayStation Plus subscription. If you have a PS4, you’ll likely see fewer new games offered, as most will be for PS5 only. If a game is available on both PS4 and PS5, you’ll still get it. But going forward, Sony plans to include PS5-exclusive games in the monthly selections, even if they aren’t available on PS4.
