The Hulk has been a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe for a long time, but his absence from, or role in, the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday has sparked a lot of discussion. Since first appearing in 2008, many feel the Hulk hasn’t reached his full potential within the franchise, often appearing only as a supporting character. Despite this, he’s become a hugely popular hero with audiences. Because of this, fans are eagerly anticipating any news about what part he might play in Avengers: Doomsday.
Mark Ruffalo, who plays the Hulk, has indicated he won’t be in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday movie. He shared this while discussing his new film, Crime 101, which will also star his Marvel co-star Chris Hemsworth. However, Ruffalo hopes to reprise his role as the Hulk in future Marvel projects, as long as the storylines are interesting. Despite not being in Doomsday, Ruffalo’s comments suggest he isn’t leaving the MCU entirely.
Hulk’s Absence & Ruffalo’s Reaction Might Be A Good Thing For The MCU

Mark Ruffalo has played the Hulk in Marvel movies since 2012, but he’s never had his own standalone film. Many fans believe the Hulk deserves more focus, and the fact that he isn’t in the upcoming Doomsday project seemed to continue that pattern. However, leaving Hulk out of the story might actually be a good thing for his character’s development in the future.
Mark Ruffalo has expressed his willingness to return as Hulk, but only if Marvel has a compelling story idea. This suggests he’s conscious of how underutilized the character has been in past films. Given his long-standing role as one of the original Avengers, it’s likely we’ll see Hulk again in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, skipping another large team-up movie could actually benefit a future, more substantial solo story for the character.
Hulk is coming back to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, continuing his story after a long absence. This film seems like a better opportunity to relaunch Hulk’s storyline than the previously rumored Doomsday, where there was concern he might even die. It’s encouraging that Mark Ruffalo, who plays Hulk, understands the need for strong future stories, suggesting the character is in good hands.
