Ryan Murphy is known for creating terrifying TV shows. Series like American Horror Story, its follow-up American Horror Stories, and Grotesquerie have changed the landscape of horror on television. He’s now releasing another new horror series, and even before it’s premiered, it’s already setting records, building huge anticipation among fans for the scares to come.
The new series, The Beauty, premieres January 21st at 9 p.m. Eastern on both FX and Hulu, with the first three episodes available to watch. Based on the 2016 graphic novel by Jeremy Haun and Jason A. Hurley, the show features Evan Peters, Anthony Ramos, Jeremy Pope, Ashton Kutcher, and Rebecca Hall. The trailer has quickly become a hit, racking up around 190 million views on social media in its first week – making it FX’s most popular trailer ever.
The Beauty Makes Perfection a Sexually Transmitted Disease With Horrifying Consequences
The latest series plunges into the glamorous but dangerous world of high fashion as top models start dying in shocking and unexplained circumstances. FBI agents Cooper Madsen and Jordan Bennett are dispatched to Paris to investigate. Their investigation soon reveals a disturbing secret: a sexually transmitted virus that grants flawless beauty, but at a terrible cost. The source of this virus, and the deaths, leads back to a powerful and secretive tech billionaire named Ashton Kutcher and his company, ‘The Corporation,’ who will stop at nothing to safeguard their lucrative and dangerous product, ‘The Beauty’.
The new series is being compared to the popular 2024 horror film, The Substance, which starred Demi Moore and Margaret Qualley. That film centered on an aging actress who uses a questionable drug to regain her youth after being fired, but faces terrifying results. The series creator has also explained that the show explores themes similar to the current obsession with rapid physical transformation through medications like Ozempic, and asks how far people will go to achieve beauty.
The new series The Beauty premieres on FX and Hulu on Wednesday, January 21st at 9 p.m. Eastern Time, with the first three episodes available right away. New episodes will then be released every Wednesday.
