Nintendo Exec Teases Possible Anime Future for Its Biggest Hits

I’ve noticed Nintendo‘s had some great anime adaptations in the past, and the current president seems open to doing more. It’s a little surprising, actually, that we don’t see more Nintendo properties as anime, considering how popular some of their franchises have become in that space. Pokemon is the big standout, of course – it’s been hugely successful for decades with countless series and movies. But when you think about it, it’s pretty much the only Nintendo franchise to reach that level of global recognition as an anime.

I’ve noticed Nintendo games haven’t been adapted into anime series very often lately. But Nintendo’s president, Shuntaro Furukawa, recently shared that the company is looking to expand beyond just video games. He talked about the upcoming Super Mario Bros. Movie and the live-action Legend of Zelda film, and also hinted that they’re considering anime projects as well.

Nintendo President Talks New Movies and Future Projects

Nintendo builds customer loyalty by consistently focusing on quality, which transforms casual observers into dedicated fans, explained Furukawa. While profits are important, Nintendo’s primary goal with its films is to expand the reach of its characters beyond gaming. Films allow Nintendo to connect with audiences in areas where its consoles aren’t as popular, and the company hopes to establish a sustainable system for continued film production in the future.

Nintendo plans to create more movies and video content in the future. According to Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa, video content has an advantage over games because it can be enjoyed for a long time on different devices, even as technology changes. This includes the possibility of making anime series based on more of their popular games, similar to what they’ve done with Kirby and F-Zero. However, Nintendo acknowledges there are challenges to overcome to make this happen.

Nintendo Anime Are Considered “Challenging”

When asked about a new Nintendo anime, Furukawa suggested it’s possible, but also admitted it would be difficult to make happen. He didn’t dismiss the idea completely, explaining that anime could allow Nintendo to create truly unique content. While this isn’t a definite confirmation fans were hoping for, it seems the possibility hasn’t been ruled out entirely.

Nintendo is currently focusing on expanding its properties through full-length movies and is also testing out shorter animated projects. While a full-fledged anime series isn’t planned for the immediate future, it hasn’t been ruled out completely. Seeing the success of Pokémon and the varying results of other animated shows, Nintendo is carefully considering its options before moving forward.
