The movie “Amityville Horror” was inspired by a true story and novel from 1974, where the Lutz family, consisting of George, Kathy, and their three children, unknowingly moved into a house in Amityville, New York, which had a dark past. In this house, Ronald DeFeo Jr. had brutally murdered his parents and siblings. After moving in, the Lutzes claimed to encounter numerous eerie supernatural activities, such as mysterious noises, cold spots, foul odors, and sightings of ghostly apparitions. It was almost like when our editor retreats to his office after a wild night out (“You’re fired,” he says – Ed).
The family only stayed for 28 days before they fled the house, supposedly scared by these supernatural events. The original film released in 1979 made $86 million at the box office, and since then there have been sporadic sequels of varying quality, with Ryan Reynolds even appearing in a 2005 remake before his Deadpool days. Now, news of another Amityville Horror film is circulating.
The upcoming Amityville Horror film is being referred to as a “fresh, modern take on the classic haunted house tale, tailored for today’s audience.” The husband-and-wife team of Joseph and Vanessa Winter, known for their work on the horror movie Deadstream, will helm this project based on their original script. It’s speculated that production will commence towards the end of 2025, with a planned release date in late 2026.
The specifics of the plot remain a secret, as it won’t involve the DeFeo murders or the Lutz story. So, it’s unclear what the movie will focus on, but our speculation leans towards the challenges faced by real estate agents attempting to sell the property.
