Men in Black Sees Free Streaming Success Before Leaving Tubi

Even a memory-wiping device couldn’t make people forget this popular sci-fi movie. The film, starring Will Smith, is once again a hit, now ranking among the most-watched titles on Tubi, the free streaming service.

On January 20th, Men in Black ranked as the third most popular movie on the streaming service, following Pulp Fiction and The Equalizer 2. Competing with other films on Starz and Peacock, Men in Black outperformed titles like Beverly Hills Cop, Prey, and Godzilla to achieve this third-place ranking on Tubi.

While Men in Black is currently available to stream for free on Tubi, that might not last long. The movie is marked as leaving the platform soon, although Tubi hasn’t announced an exact removal date.

Tubi isn’t the only place where people are enjoying Men in Black. When the movie – starring Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones as secret agents who investigate alien activity on Earth – came out in the late 1990s, it was a huge hit. It earned $589.4 million worldwide, more than six times its $90 million production cost, and became the third-highest-grossing film of 1997.

Most people who saw Men in Black weren’t surprised by its success. The film continues to be popular with both regular moviegoers and critics, with high ratings on Rotten Tomatoes – 80% from fans and 91% from critics. Even after thirty years, reviewers still praise its sharp humor, great special effects, and the performances of Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones as Agents J and K.

More Men in Black Is On The Way

The original Men in Black film was followed by three sequels, the latest being Men in Black: International in 2019, and another film is now in development. Chris Bremner, who recently worked on the new Bad Boys movie, is writing the script for Sony Pictures. While no actors have officially joined the project yet, Bremner and his team plan to begin casting once the script is finished. It’s currently unknown how involved Will Smith, who played Agent J, will be, or if he will return at all. Sony has not released any official statements about the project.

Although Will Smith isn’t currently involved with the potential fifth Men in Black movie and will decide about participating only after reading the script, this wouldn’t be his first time working with screenwriter David Bremner. Smith recently appeared in Bad Boys for Life (2020) and is also set to star in the upcoming Netflix action film Fast and Loose, which Bremner helped write.

Men in Black is currently available to stream on Tubi.
