With Just 3 Episodes Left, I’m Officially Worried About The Boys’ Ending

With only three episodes remaining in Season 5 of The Boys, I’m starting to worry about how the show will wrap things up. The Boys has always been known for its dark and satirical take on superheroes, using that to offer sharp social commentary with a lot of humor. Now, after seven years, Season 5 needs to bring the story to a satisfying conclusion, which likely means someone will have to finally defeat Homelander. We also need to find out what happens to Butcher and the rest of The Boys. There’s a lot to resolve, and after seeing the first five episodes, I’m a little concerned it won’t all come together.

As a critic, I’ve been watching The Boys Season 5 closely, and I’m cautiously optimistic. They’ve made some smart choices – keeping the Gen V characters from stealing the show and giving satisfying conclusions to storylines like A-Train’s and Firecracker’s. The recent episodes, especially the one with that fantastic Supernatural reunion, have been really strong. But honestly, I’m still not entirely convinced we’re headed for a truly great finale. The show itself seems to be subtly suggesting things might not stick the landing, and I’ve seen too many series fumble at the finish line. So, while I’m enjoying the ride, I’m keeping my fingers crossed.

The Boys Season 5 Doesn’t Feel Like It’s Ending in 3 Episodes

While each episode of The Boys Season 5 is good on its own, the season doesn’t feel like it’s building towards a final showdown. Even though Homelander has made things worse than ever, the recent episodes haven’t created a strong sense of urgency. Antony Starr’s portrayal of Homelander shows him falling apart, but he doesn’t seem genuinely threatened. There are still a lot of unknowns about Butcher’s virus and another serum called V1, which could stop the virus from working. If these serums become a factor, the last few episodes might become more exciting. For now, though, it feels like a lull before a big event, and it’s making the season feel longer than it needs to be.

I’m not sure The Boys can meaningfully raise the tension much higher in just three more hours, especially considering everything else the show still needs to resolve. With so many characters – both central and supporting – needing satisfying conclusions, it’s going to be difficult to give them all the endings they deserve. While resolving Butcher’s conflict with Homelander is essential, we also need to know what happens to the rest of The Boys and The Seven. And for those who make it through, it’ll be important to see how their relationships evolve after everything that’s happened.

Jensen Ackles’ character, Soldier Boy, has become central to Season 5, which is creating a problem. While he’s a great addition to the cast of The Boys, his prominence is making the storyline feel less streamlined. The team is no longer simply focused on defeating Homelander; they also have to contend with Soldier Boy’s immense power, and the looming possibility that another equally dangerous figure will emerge to replace Homelander and Soldier Boy, as Stan Edgar suggests.

Gen V’s Cancellation Makes More Even More Worried for The Main Show’s Ending

With a lot already happening in The Boys, the show now faces extra challenges as it heads toward its finale. Because the spin-off Gen V has been cancelled, The Boys will also need to give those characters some closure. It’s unclear how well they can integrate Gen V’s characters alongside their existing storylines, especially since they haven’t even appeared yet. Thankfully, The Boys hasn’t let the new characters take over the main plot. Still, the shows are connected enough that the spin-off’s story needs to feel meaningful within the larger narrative, and right now, it’s difficult to see how everything will come together smoothly.

I Haven’t Lost All Hope for The Boys’ Series Finale Yet

I went into the final episodes of The Boys with some doubts, but I’m not writing it off just yet. There’s still a lot to wrap up, but honestly, Prime Video is handling things pretty well so far. The pacing is a little slower than I anticipated, but the show is giving really satisfying conclusions to the character arcs that are finished. A-Train’s journey to redemption felt complete, and Firecracker’s storyline ended up being way more impactful than I ever could have predicted.

The show is doing a good job of finding the right mix of everything it’s trying to achieve. The brief return of characters from Supernatural feels like a nice treat without taking over the story, and the decision not to include elements from Gen V helps keep the plot focused. The way the creators are handling these connections makes me hopeful they can successfully manage everything in the remaining episodes. I’ve been disappointed by finales before, but I’m cautiously optimistic that The Boys will deliver a satisfying conclusion despite the challenges it’s facing.
