A recent report suggests that remakes of Halo 2 and Halo 3 are being planned. Xbox, working with Halo Studios (previously known as 343 Industries), is scheduled to release a remake of the original Halo game later this year. The report claims that Xbox has not only approved the next two remakes but has already begun early development work on them. While full production hasn’t started, it seems they are currently in the pre-production phase, likely waiting for resources to become available.
A reliable Halo source, Rebs Gaming, recently shared some information, but hasn’t provided many details. We don’t know when these remakes will be announced or launched, or which platforms they’ll be available on. It’s likely they will be for Xbox Series X or the next generation of Xbox consoles, and releases on both current and next-gen consoles seem possible. We probably won’t get any further updates until after the remake of the original Halo game has been out for a while.
The Best Halo Games
Most fans consider Halo 2 and Halo 3 to be the strongest entries in the Halo series, though Halo: Combat Evolved is rightfully remembered as the game that started it all. Halo Reach also has a dedicated following. However, Halo 2 and Halo 3 represent the high point of the franchise in terms of both quality and how popular they were, largely due to their excellent multiplayer modes. If the remake of Halo: Combat Evolved is any indication, the planned remakes of Halo 2 and Halo 3 will focus solely on the campaign. While both games have fantastic campaigns, this would be a letdown, especially considering recent Halo games haven’t delivered strong multiplayer experiences. This is largely because 343 Industries hasn’t been able to match the quality of the original trilogy created by Bungie, and this extends to the campaign design as well.
Keep in mind that this information should be considered cautiously. Rebs Gaming has been accurate sometimes, but isn’t always right. Also, even if this is true now, things could still change.
