Marathon Pre-Order Bug That Hilariously Caused Destiny 2 to Install on Steam Has Been Fixed

I was so excited when Marathon finally got a release date, even if it leaked early on the Xbox Store! It looks like a lot of other fans were too, because it jumped into the top ten best-selling games on Steam this week. It dropped down to 26th pretty quickly, but still! The weirdest part, though? People who pre-ordered on Steam were getting Destiny 2 instead of Marathon – talk about a bug!

This isn’t an exaggeration: Destiny 2 was unexpectedly starting to download for some players, even if they hadn’t initiated the process. Fortunately, Bungie has fixed this problem, as well as an issue that stopped owners of the Collector’s Edition from activating the game on Steam. Hopefully, these are the last of the Steam-related problems, but it’s still too soon to be certain.

Marathon arrives on Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and PC on March 5th, featuring three playable maps. A fourth map, Cryo Archive, will be added in Season 1, though the Season 1 release date hasn’t been announced yet. Players can choose from seven different Runners, each offering a distinct way to play. You can further personalize these Runners with unique Cores and Implants, which give all your characters random stats and special abilities.

Bungie hasn’t announced whether there will be a public beta before the game comes out, so keep an eye out for future news. Good news for PC players: the game doesn’t require a super powerful computer, and Marathon will include options for playing alone and chatting with nearby players when it launches.
