Phil Collins is staying focused on his recovery.
Phil Collins, the former lead singer of Genesis who stopped performing music in 2022, recently shared an update about his health, revealing he has kidney problems caused by years of alcohol abuse.
Phil shared on the BBC’s Eras podcast that he likely damaged his kidneys from drinking too much alcohol. He clarified that he wasn’t a late-night drinker, but tended to drink throughout the day, and believes he simply overdid it, according to The Daily Mail.
The 74-year-old explained that while he didn’t feel intoxicated, he did stumble a couple of times. He attributed it to simply being overwhelmed and said he ended up needing months of hospital care.
Phil’s health issues continued, and he began experiencing knee pain. This led to rumors last July that he was receiving hospice care. Phil shares two children, Nic Collins, 24, and Matthew Collins, 18, with his wife, Orianne Cevey, and has another child, Lily Collins, 36, with his ex-wife, Jill Tavelman.
His team dismissed the rumors, stating he was recovering from knee surgery in the hospital.
He shared in a podcast interview that he faced a lot of health challenges. He’s had five knee surgeries and, while he can now walk, he still needs crutches for support.
Despite improved knee health, Phil Collins continues to manage considerable nerve damage in his hands. This nerve damage began after a spinal injury sustained during his band’s final tour in 2007. He is also a father to Joely Collins, 52, and Simon Collins, 48, with his former partner, Andrea Bertorelli.

We always performed a drum duet during our concerts. One night, I started to lose feeling and control in my left hand,” he remembered. “I hoped it would pass, but it just kept getting worse.”
The nerve condition eventually forced him to stop drumming during concerts, but he was determined to rejoin Genesis for their 2021 Last Domino? tour. To ensure the band could still perform their drum-heavy songs, Phil’s son, Nic, played the drums for him.
The musician is still adjusting to life after performing, but he’s grateful he made the choice to retire when and how he wanted.
In his 2024 documentary, Phil Collins: Drummer First, Collins explained that he’d rather retire than perform if he couldn’t deliver the same quality he was known for. He said he might play again if he physically could, but feels he’s already given his all and doesn’t have anything left to offer.

Lupita Nyong’o, known for her role in 12 Years a Slave, received a diagnosis of uterine fibroids—non-cancerous growths in or around the uterus—in 2014, the same year she won an Academy Award for her performance in the film.
She didn’t share her diagnosis until 2025, when she revealed on Instagram that she had been privately struggling with the condition for over ten years.

He described a lingering tingling sensation in his knees and toes during a March 2025 episode of his podcast, Trading Secrets. He explained that just a few weeks prior, he was able to squat 295 pounds, but now he can’t even do a single squat without falling over. He compared the feeling to having had a stroke.
But with the help of a back specialist and some steroids, he added, “We’re on the mend.”

As a huge fan, I was really worried to hear about what happened to Christy Carlson Romano! She explained that a small piece of something got stuck behind her eye, and the doctors feel it’s too dangerous to try and remove it with surgery right now. Thankfully, she says she can still see perfectly fine, and the doctors are going to keep a close watch on things, which is a relief!
The actress expressed immense gratitude for surviving a frightening experience. She shared how much she cherishes her daughters, husband, family, and friends, explaining that facing a life-threatening situation made her realize how quickly things can change. She urged everyone to hug their loved ones often, emphasizing the importance of appreciating life and the people in it.

Amy Schumer is grateful for the internet, despite its often negative side, because it helped her discover a health issue. After noticing she looked “puffier,” Schumer was surprised when doctors began commenting on her appearance after interviews. They suggested she might have Cushing syndrome, potentially caused by high cortisol levels or steroid injections. This prompted her to realize she’d been receiving steroid injections for procedures like a breast reduction and C-section. Without the online attention, she wouldn’t have connected the injections to her symptoms and received a diagnosis. In a recent newsletter, Schumer expressed relief that her form of Cushing syndrome is temporary and she is healthy.

In December 2024, an AHL player suffered a skate cut during a game and needed 25 stitches to close the wound. In March 2022, Hailey Bieber experienced a frightening health scare while having breakfast with her husband, Justin Bieber. She suddenly developed stroke-like symptoms, struggling to speak and noticing drooping on the right side of her face. Although these symptoms eventually subsided, she went to the hospital for evaluation. Doctors discovered she had a small blood clot in her brain, which they identified as a TIA (Transient Ischemic Attack), often called a ‘mini-stroke’. Further testing at UCLA revealed Hailey had a hole in her heart called a patent foramen ovale (PFO). This hole allowed the blood clot to travel to her brain, causing the TIA. Hailey successfully underwent a procedure to close the PFO and is now doing well.

The same year Hailey faced a health issue, Justin also experienced one. In June 2022, he revealed he had been diagnosed with Ramsay Hunt syndrome, which caused temporary paralysis on one side of his face. This forced him to cancel the rest of his Justice World Tour.
In a video posted to Instagram, Justin explained the condition affected the nerves in his ear and face, preventing him from blinking, smiling, or moving his nostril on the affected side. He also shared that it was becoming increasingly difficult for him to eat.
Fortunately, the paralysis eventually went away. Hailey shared on Good Morning America that Justin was recovering well, adding that while the situation was frightening and unexpected, he was going to be okay and she was grateful he was fine.

Jamie Foxx recently shared details about the health scare he experienced in April 2023, which he had initially kept private. He explained that while in Atlanta, he suffered a severe headache and asked for aspirin, but then lost consciousness. He doesn’t remember the next twenty days.
Initially, a doctor gave him a cortisone shot and sent him home, but his sister, Deidra Dixon, was worried and took him to the hospital. There, doctors discovered he had a brain bleed that led to a stroke.
After surgery, twenty days later, on May 4th, Jamie woke up in a wheelchair unable to walk. He then went to Chicago for extensive rehabilitation and therapy.
Jamie expressed his gratitude for all the prayers he received, saying he needed every single one.

The reality TV star said she temporarily stopped breathing while running a mile during the first challenge on the NBC show.
She shared on the show Fit for TV: The Reality of The Biggest Loser that her memory of the event was fragmented. She explained that her organs were failing. She hadn’t known she had rhabdomyolysis, a condition where your body essentially starts to shut down.

Emilia Clarke, known for her role in Game of Thrones, bravely battled serious health issues. In 2019, she wrote about her experiences in an essay for The New Yorker, detailing a frightening ordeal that began with a severe headache while at the gym. She described feeling violently ill and realizing something was seriously wrong with her brain.
After being taken to the hospital and undergoing a brain scan, she was diagnosed with a subarachnoid hemorrhage – a life-threatening stroke caused by bleeding around the brain. It was discovered she had an aneurysm, a burst blood vessel. She immediately underwent surgery to repair it, but the pain was excruciating.
During her recovery, she experienced aphasia, making it difficult to speak, and found herself unable to form coherent sentences. Thankfully, the aphasia subsided after a week, and she was discharged from the hospital a month later.
However, a 2013 scan revealed the aneurysm had grown, requiring a second surgery. This surgery was unsuccessful, leading to a massive bleed and putting her life at risk. Doctors had to perform a more invasive procedure, accessing her brain directly through her skull.
Fortunately, Emilia is now fully recovered and says she is “at a hundred per cent.”

In a September 2024 podcast interview, she explained that she experienced hearing loss, extreme fatigue, and digestive issues. She saw many doctors, but received conflicting diagnoses. Determined to find answers, Woodley, who has a background in herbalism, combined traditional medical care with alternative healing methods. For ten years, she worked to understand and address her condition. This physical discomfort led to anxieties around food and ultimately, issues with body image and self-perception. Thankfully, after a long journey of healing both her body and mind, Shailene is now healthy and feeling good.
