Final Fantasy 7 Remake Update Is Great for Xbox Users and It Could Hint at Part 3’s Release

Fans have been waiting a long time for a complete update to the classic Final Fantasy 7. The first part of the remake, Final Fantasy 7 Remake, launched on PlayStation 5 in 2020, and has since become available on PC and, as of January 22nd, on Nintendo Switch 2 and Xbox. Now that Final Fantasy 7 Remake is on these new platforms, players are eager to find out when the next game, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, will be released – and there’s finally some positive news about its arrival.

There have been rumors for a while that Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth would come to Xbox in 2026. But with Final Fantasy 7 Remake only just being released on Xbox (and Switch 2) on January 22nd, that seemed like a fast turnaround. However, a trusted source, @NateTheHate, has again stated that Rebirth will indeed be available on Xbox this year. This quick release schedule might suggest when we can expect the third and final game in the Final Fantasy 7 remake series.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake Trilogy Could Get Its Final Installment in 2027

Nate The Hate, a well-known source of gaming leaks, recently thanked the Gaming Leaks & Rumors Subreddit after they named him Leaker of the Year for 2025. Fans quickly responded to his post with questions about past leaks. One fan asked if Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is still expected to release on Xbox (and likely the upcoming Switch 2) in 2026. Nate simply replied: “Yes.”

The first game in the series just launched on Switch 2 and Xbox on January 22nd, so the announcement of a second game this year came as a surprise. Players on Xbox will be pleased to know that the sequel might arrive on their platform relatively soon, considering the first game ends with many adventures still to come for Cloud and his companions. However, for those anticipating the complete remake trilogy, which began in 2020, the big question now is: when can we expect the third game to be released?

Square Enix hasn’t announced when the final installment of the Final Fantasy 7 remake trilogy will be released. However, the quick release of the first two games on Xbox and the upcoming Switch 2 in 2026 suggests they might be working towards a deadline. It’s been six years since the original Remake came out, and two years since Rebirth. This sudden push to get both games on Xbox Series X|S and Switch 2 raises the question of why they’re in a hurry.

For a while, there’s been talk that Square Enix has known when they plan to release Part 3. People familiar with the project have said development has been going well. While Square Enix hasn’t officially announced a date, a release in 2027 seems probable. 2027 is the 40th anniversary of the original Final Fantasy, making it an ideal time for a major new game. This timeline would also allow Square Enix to ensure the previous two games are available on all popular platforms before Part 3 launches.

Xbox players will probably have to wait even longer to finish the story, even if the final part of Final Fantasy 7 Remake does come out in 2027. It’s expected to launch first on PlayStation, meaning Xbox, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC gamers will likely have to wait at least a year before they can play it.
