Ashton Kutcher is done letting his past comments soak.
After rumors began circulating nearly five years ago that he and his wife, Mila Kunis, don’t shower often, the actor finally spoke about their bathing habits.
Ashton described a bizarre experience in a recent interview with People magazine. He recalled making a comment that led people to question whether he had a bad odor, saying, ‘They were like, ‘Does he stink?’ It was just a really strange moment.’
The 47-year-old quickly dismissed the rumors, which led to fans playfully chanting “Take a shower” at him during his September 2021 appearance on ESPN’s College GameDay.
He explained that people often assume he doesn’t shower, but he insists that’s not true. He clarified, ‘I do shower, and I also go to the gym and shower after.’
Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis sparked a conversation about personal hygiene after sharing their showering habits. During an interview on Dax Shepard’s Armchair Expert podcast in July 2021, the couple jokingly discussed whether using bar soap is good for your skin’s natural oils.
I’ve been following Mila for a while now, and she’s always been really open about her routine. She recently shared that she doesn’t do a full body soap-up every day, but she does make sure to wash specific areas – underarms, breasts, you know, and feet – daily. It’s a pretty practical approach, honestly!
The actress known for her role in Black Swan, who was raised in Ukraine, also shared that she didn’t have regular access to hot water as a child, meaning she didn’t shower often.
And Ashton admitted he also takes a minimalist approach.

He explained that he only washes his armpits and groin each day, and always uses the same soap. ‘I stick with Lever 2000,’ he said, ‘it’s the only one that works for me.’
Mila, who shares 11-year-old daughter Wyatt Isabell and 9-year-old son Dimitri Portwood with Ashton, said she started applying the same mindful approach she uses in the shower to how she parents her children.
She explained that she didn’t bathe her babies daily after having children, and in fact, she never bathed newborns at all.
Ashton agreed with his wife and explained simply, “If something looks dirty, go ahead and clean it. If it doesn’t, there’s no need to bother.”
Ashton and Mila aren’t the only celebrities talking about how often they shower. Here’s what other stars have shared about their bathing routines.

Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher revealed their bathing routines during an interview on the Armchair Expert podcast back in July 2021, sparking a discussion online. Mila explained she doesn’t use soap on her whole body every day. Ashton added that he only washes his armpits and groin daily, and leaves the rest of his body alone.
In January 2026, though, the That ’70s Show alum cleared the air while looking back at the rumors.
Ashton told People magazine it was a really bizarre experience. He recalled making a joke that led people to wonder if he had a bad odor.
He added, “I’m like, ‘I shower, I go to the gym, I shower.'”

In 2021, actor Jake Gyllenhaal told Vanity Fair he’s been showering less often. He believes that not bathing can actually be good for your skin, as our bodies have a natural way of cleaning themselves.

Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson jokingly dismissed rumors about poor hygiene in a 2021 post on what was then Twitter, now known as X. He explained that he actually showers multiple times a day: a cold shower first thing in the morning, a warm shower after exercising, and a hot shower when he gets home from work. He also mentioned he enjoys a full skincare routine and singing (badly) while showering.

Dax explained on The View in 2021 that they used to give their kids a bath every night as part of their bedtime routine. But eventually, the kids started falling asleep independently, which made them realize how long it had been since their last bath. They had to start checking to make sure they were still bathing them!
You know, I completely agree with Kristen – I always say you should wait until you smell it! That’s nature’s way of telling you it’s time to deal with the mess, and I think that’s brilliant. It’s like your body is giving you a clear signal – time to clean up!

In 2021, the former star of The Real Housewives of New York City shared on X (formerly Twitter) that she requires her daughter to bathe every day. She explained that bathing is a relaxing and cleansing practice that promotes sleep, and that she’s taught her daughter good hygiene from a very young age. She jokingly asked if she would face backlash for this strict parenting choice.

Jason Momoa jokingly addressed rumors about his hygiene in a 2021 interview with Access Hollywood. He said, ‘I do shower, trust me!’ He explained that as Aquaman, he’s constantly in the water, and growing up Hawaiian means he’s always around saltwater, so he’s naturally clean.

During the filming of Inglourious Basterds, Brad Pitt shared a quick hygiene trick with his fellow actors. According to Eli Roth, a friend and costar, Pitt suggested using baby wipes to freshen up under your arms when you don’t have time to shower. Roth recalled that after one scene, Pitt noticed he smelled and advised, “Baby wipes, man, baby wipes!”
