Murder, She Wrote reboot with Hollywood A-lister finally confirms beloved director

Good progress is being made on the new Murder, She Wrote movie, and a director has been chosen to lead the project.

Jamie Lee Curtis will step into the iconic role of Jessica Fletcher, originally played by Angela Lansbury, in a new film directed by Jason Moore, who previously directed the hit movie Pitch Perfect.

In addition to his work on ‘The Mother,’ Moore has directed movies like ‘Sisters’ and ‘Shotgun Wedding.’ He’s also directed television episodes for shows including ‘Dawson’s Creek’ and ‘Everwood,’ and is currently working on the upcoming ‘Legally Blonde’ prequel series, ‘Elle’.

Although he didn’t direct the later Pitch Perfect movies, he still helped make them happen as an executive producer for the second and third installments.

The film will be directed by Moore, based on a screenplay by Lauren Schuker Blum and Rebecca Angelo. Amy Pascal, Phil Lord, and Christopher Miller will produce.

Curtis acknowledged that following in Angela Lansbury’s footsteps is impossible, stating, ‘No one can ever match what Angela did.’ However, he added that he intends to approach the role with his own unique perspective and inquisitiveness.

She shared with Entertainment Tonight that she was really excited about the project, but she’s trying to remain calm and not get too carried away until filming begins.

“I have a couple of other things to hustle, but then I’ll get to enjoy that work,” She said.

Murder, She Wrote originally aired from 1984 to 1996, spanning 12 seasons and four TV movies. The show featured Jessica Fletcher, a mystery novelist who also solved crimes as an amateur detective, both in her hometown of Cabot Cove and in other locations.

A new series called Elle, starring Lexi Minetree as a young Elle Woods (the character famously played by Reese Witherspoon), is coming out on July 1st. The show has already been picked up for another season and will explore Elle’s teenage years, revealing the experiences that made her who she is in the 2001 film.
