HBO still hasn’t decided whether it’ll conclude The Last of Us 2’s story in one season or two.
Casey Bloys, our boss, mentioned that Craig Mazin is currently deciding if there will be another two seasons or a single extended season to conclude the storyline. He’s letting us know that he’s closely watching Craig’s decisions regarding this matter.
Although Season 2 garnered numerous Emmy awards quite suddenly, the public response has shown a diverse range of opinions for several factors such as pace, character selection, and other aspects.
If we were to judge the interest in another season or two of the show, it seems unlikely based on our observations. However, this is simply our interpretation of the current situation.
These circumstances are further complicated by the fact that the original series creator, Neil Druckmann, chose to leave the project and devote himself to his primary role as CEO of Naughty Dog instead.
Bloys made a remark about it, stating that although it’s beneficial to have the auteur involved, he thinks Mazin and his team are perfectly capable of carrying on with the storyline.
It was great to have Neil participate. Many people aren’t aware that Neil juggles a full-time role as a video game creator at Naughty Dog, which is quite an extensive task. Nevertheless, his commitment to the project has provided us with a solid foundation for the show. Since Craig is an expert in this field, I have confidence that we’ll be in great hands moving forward. Frankly, I don’t have any concerns.
It was cool to have Neil join us. Some people don’t know that Neil is a game developer and manages Naughty Dog full-time, which can be quite demanding. However, he has given us a great plan for the show, and since Craig is really good at this stuff, I think we’re in safe hands. I’m not worried about it at all.
In the conversation, there was a question about if the rotating cast might affect viewer’s eagerness for upcoming series installments, given that Pedro Pascal’s character, Joel, has met a violent end.
He clarified, “From a non-marketing standpoint, I believe the title benefits significantly due to its association with the video game. The first two seasons have become quite recognized, and I admire series that present unique perspectives on familiar themes.
What are your thoughts on what lies ahead for HBO’s The Last of Us? Would you prefer if the story continued over two additional seasons, or are you content with just the one? Share your opinions in the comments section below!
