Fans have been wondering which Guardians cast members might join him at DC. We’ve already seen some, like Bradley Cooper in Superman, and many believe Chris Pratt would be a fantastic addition. Gunn has even called Pratt one of his closest friends, and the two have discussed potential DC projects.
I was listening to the Happy Sad Confused podcast, and they asked about my chances of working with James Gunn on the new DC Universe. I always like to play things close to the vest, because honestly, the idea of joining him on a DC project would be incredible. But, being real, I don’t think we’ve actually discussed anything specific yet. I definitely have some characters in mind that I think I could bring to life, and I get the feeling he might see potential there too, but there’s nothing concrete happening right now. I’m trying to be coy, but honestly, I don’t know which character it would be. I’d absolutely love to collaborate with James again, though!
Pratt shared a funny exchange he had with James Gunn about the possibility of him playing Batman. He sent Gunn a photoshopped picture of himself wearing a Batman mask, and Gunn simply replied with a laugh. Pratt joked that this made it clear he wouldn’t be cast as Batman. He added that he wouldn’t even know how to approach the role, considering how many different versions of Batman already exist.
James Gunn Wants Chris Pratt to Join the DCU
James Gunn doesn’t think Chris Pratt is right for Batman, but he’s still eager to work with him again someday. It just needs to be the right project and the right time. While fans often see Pratt as a funny guy, like his character Star-Lord, he’s proven he can also handle action and more serious roles – even within the Guardians of the Galaxy films. After playing Star-Lord for so long, Pratt might be looking for a chance to show off his acting range with a different type of character. Gunn wants the DC Universe to be diverse in tone and style, similar to the comics, which could open up some interesting possibilities for Pratt.
Before Chris Pratt can officially join the DC Universe, he might need to complete any remaining commitments to Marvel. The ending of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 hinted at a return for his character, Star-Lord, but there’s no confirmed timeline for that yet. While many actors have appeared in both Marvel and DC films, it’s unusual for them to be actively involved in both universes at the same time. If Pratt does join DC, fans will likely expect his character to become a regular part of their shared universe, which could be difficult if he’s still contracted with the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Chris Pratt still has some responsibilities as Star-Lord, but it’s understandable why he’s interested in joining the DC Universe, especially given his close relationship with James Gunn. With the Guardians of the Galaxy story finished and Marvel planning a fresh start with Avengers: Secret Wars, Pratt may be looking for a new major role. He might make a cameo in a future Avengers film to wrap up his time as Star-Lord before Marvel focuses on other heroes. Since he’s no longer involved with the Jurassic World franchise, he’s likely seeking another big blockbuster opportunity to anchor his career.
Chris Pratt has been trying to leverage his success from Guardians of the Galaxy in other big-budget films for over ten years, but many haven’t been successful. His new movie, the sci-fi thriller Mercy, received negative reviews, continuing a pattern for his non-Marvel films. While his Marvel movies have been well-received—often with James Gunn involved—working with Gunn again could help Pratt revitalize his career.
