Season 2 of My Hero Academia: Vigilantes is currently being released, and it’s been showing the main character, Koichi, steadily improving his powers. The newest episode is a turning point, as Koichi finally understands the full potential of his quirk. He discovers he can both repel and attract things, and learns how to use this dual ability effectively in fights. Koichi realizes he can use the magnetic pull in his legs to stay grounded, while pushing objects away with force from his hands. This is reminiscent of how Deku first learned to control One For All, starting by focusing power through his fingers.
Koichi’s powers and personality clearly echo Deku’s, as he shares Deku’s shyness, love of heroes like All Might, and generally nerdy demeanor. The way his quirk develops further strengthens this connection, making him feel like a successor to Deku. Many fans anticipated Deku would follow a similar path – becoming a vigilante when things seemed hopeless – and Koichi fulfills that expectation. In a way, Koichi isn’t just a stand-in for Deku, but a character who explores a storyline the main story only hinted at.
