If you’re on the hunt for a fresh detective series, here’s an intriguing prospect that could be right up your alley, penned by the talented mind behind both Doctor Who and Sherlock – none other than Mark Gatiss.
In this role, I find myself immersed in a fresh production titled “Bookish,” set in 1946 London. Here, I embody a character who runs a bookstore, yet my duties extend beyond selling books; I lend a hand to the police in solving mysteries and crimes.
The series consists of twelve standalone episodes, with six pairs of episodes that focus on Gabriel Book’s pursuit of solving different cases in each pair.
Concurrently, we delve into the narrative of his union with Trottie (Polly Walker), a dear friend whom he deeply cherishes. In a “lavender marriage,” our protagonist, who is secretly gay during a time when homosexuality was outlawed, maintains this relationship while each pursues romantic interests independently outside of it.
Apart from the main cast members Connor Finch and Elliot Levey, you’ll also see Joely Richardson and Daniel Mays making special appearances. However, the big question is: When and where can one catch this series?
Read on for everything you need to know about how to watch Bookish.
How to watch Bookish?

Another simple way to stay connected with Bookish is by catching its episodes as they’re broadcasted on U&Alibi.
Each Wednesday finds episodes airing in pairs on the designated channel. The first part of these two-episode blocks begins at 8pm.
For the next three Wednesdays starting July 16th, the second episode will immediately follow the previous one, running from 9:15 pm to 10:25 pm. This pattern continues until the season finale on July 30th.
If you’re eager to watch everything right away, you can stream all six episodes on platforms like Sky, Virgin, BT, and TalkTalk.
What is Bookish about?

In 1946 London, the backdrop is bustling, perilous, and unpredictable for this fresh, stylish detective series. The enigmatic Gabriel Book (Gatiss), a self-proclaimed consultant detective for the local police force, occupies the narrative’s core. His bookstore brimming with countless books serves as his vast reservoir of knowledge.
The book is surrounded by a group of endearing, flawed individuals who seem out of place, whom he unofficially guards, encourages, and guides. His wife Trottie (Walker), operating the nearby wallpaper store, is a captivating explorer with whom he shares a strong emotional bond but not a physical one. They are in a ‘lavender’ marriage, a secret relationship, to hide the book’s sexual orientation during a period when homosexuality was illegal.
The show blends a longing for the past after World War II with an exhilarating and vibrant spirit, resulting in a swift and fashionable detective series.
The series has been written by and stars Mark Gatiss, and it has already been renewed for season 2.
