This week, Ubisoft made major changes to how it publishes games, leading to delays or cancellations for several titles, many of which haven’t even been revealed yet.
Despite recent changes within the company that led to the cancellation of some games, Beyond Good and Evil 2 is reportedly still being developed. This information comes from a report by Insider Gaming, suggesting the game has avoided being affected by the recent restructuring.
Ubisoft confirmed this information to Insider Gaming, and a representative offered a short statement.
We’re still committed to developing Beyond Good & Evil 2 as a key part of our plan to create immersive, open-world adventure games.
This game has been in development since May 2008, when it was first revealed. That means it’s been in the works for almost 18 years – a bit longer than the entire lifespan of Push Square.
The game has popped up occasionally, most memorably at E3 2017 with an impressive cinematic trailer. But other than those few instances, we haven’t heard much about it, and it feels like we’re still waiting for it after a decade.
Still, it must be moving along in some fashion, because Ubisoft is still keeping it going.
A spokesperson told Eurogamer that there aren’t enough open-world adventure games set in fantasy worlds, and they believe Baldur’s Gate 3 offers something truly different.
That may well be, but from where we’re sitting, it’s vapourware until proven otherwise.
