Sega Just Made a 1990s Classic Available for $2.49

Okay, so Sega – you know, the guys behind Sonic, Persona, and Like a Dragon – just dropped a classic game from the 90s for only $2.49! It’s a crazy 90% off, but here’s the catch: it’s only available on the Nintendo eShop. So if you’re a Switch owner, you’re in luck! And don’t worry if you’re still rocking the original Switch, it’ll play just fine since it’s backwards compatible. No Switch 2 version yet, but this is a great way to experience a retro gem.

Right now, and through February 12th, you can get The House of the Dead Remake on the Nintendo eShop for just $2.49 – it’s usually $24.99! Keep in mind this is a digital-only deal for the Nintendo Switch, and you’ll need 3.3 GB of free space on your console to download it.

A 1990s Sega Classic

Released in arcades in 1997 and on the Sega Saturn in 1998, The House of the Dead is a classic light gun shooter that many fondly remember from the late 90s. Along with Resident Evil, it helped make zombies popular in video games. The original game received a score of 71 on GameRankings and was successful enough to launch a whole series, including sequels and spin-offs. While the series hadn’t seen a new release since 2018, remakes of the first two games were recently released in 2022 and 2025 by MegaPixel Studio and Forever Entertainment. The remake of the first game is currently available for $2.49.

The Biggest Discount For the Game Ever

You’ll never find this classic Sega game at a lower price, especially since the publisher rarely offers discounts bigger than 90%. While it might become available through a subscription service on some platforms, that won’t be the case on Nintendo Switch or its next version. Ultimately, if you didn’t enjoy this game when it first came out – either in arcades or on the Sega Saturn – it probably won’t appeal to you now. It’s a very nostalgic experience, but it hasn’t aged particularly well without that nostalgic connection, especially by 2026.
