As a huge movie fan, I’ve always thought Thanos was a seriously intimidating villain in the Marvel universe. But honestly, if he went up against the big guns over at DC, it would be a completely different story. Superman and Wonder Woman are just on another level of power – way stronger than him, and incredibly skilled to boot. Even Batman, being a normal human, is a force to be reckoned with thanks to his amazing gadgets and strategic mind. And then there’s The Flash – one of the fastest and most powerful beings in the entire DC Multiverse! Thanos is definitely powerful and smart, but against the absolute top tier of DC heroes, I think he’d lose more often than not. That being said, there are still plenty of really strong DC heroes that Thanos could probably take down without too much trouble.
Being strong isn’t always enough. Even some of DC’s most powerful heroes would lose to Thanos, despite having abilities that seem better than his. Here are seven incredibly strong DC heroes who would still likely be defeated by Thanos.
7) Mary Marvel

The Shazam family is incredibly strong, but each member has different abilities and power levels. While Mary Marvel gets her powers from her brother Billy Batson, she isn’t as powerful – possessing roughly half of his strength. Even with that reduced power, she’d still be stronger and faster than Thanos. However, she isn’t as skilled a fighter as Billy, and that’s where she’d struggle. Thanos often defeats opponents who are physically stronger than him by outsmarting them, and he’d likely do the same to Mary. She simply isn’t strategic enough to counter his tactics, and doesn’t have the ruthlessness needed to win before Thanos could finish the fight.
6) Guy Gardner

Earth has produced many incredible Green Lanterns, and Guy Gardner is one of the strongest and most well-known. While he’s a bit of a troublemaker, Guy is a fantastic fighter – he’s defeated countless powerful enemies and even managed to wield a Red Lantern ring, something few thought possible. Despite his power, Guy’s flaws – his huge ego and quick temper – would ultimately lead to his defeat against Thanos. Thanos would recognize Guy’s personality and exploit it. While Thanos couldn’t beat other top Earth Lanterns like Hal Jordan, John Stewart, or Kyle Rayner, Guy wouldn’t be able to pull out a victory.
5) Zatanna

Zatanna is a powerful superheroine and one of DC’s best, known for her incredible magical abilities and for saving the world on multiple occasions. But it’s easy to overlook the fact that she’s still human. While she can inflict massive damage, she’s also vulnerable. Thanos has experience fighting magic users, so he wouldn’t be easily defeated by her. Zatanna would need to fight flawlessly, constantly balancing offense and defense, while Thanos only needs a single lucky hit to win, and he’s definitely capable of achieving that.
4) Aquaman

Aquaman is surprisingly one of Earth’s most powerful heroes. He can control all kinds of sea creatures, is incredibly strong and tough, and a skilled fighter, especially when wielding his magical trident. He can even manipulate water now. That’s a fantastic set of abilities, but Thanos is still more powerful. While Aquaman is likely physically stronger than Thanos, Thanos’s cosmic powers give him a significant edge. Even Aquaman’s control over water wouldn’t do much against Thanos, considering his unique Eternal biology. It would be a challenging battle, but ultimately, the king of Atlantis wouldn’t be able to win.
3) Jay Garrick

Jay Garrick, the original Flash from DC’s Golden Age, is a legendary hero who remains a strong fighter thanks to the Speed Force. While incredibly skilled, he isn’t as powerful as later Flashes like Barry Allen or Wally West. This difference in power will be crucial when facing Thanos. Jay’s speed is his biggest strength, but Thanos has already defeated the Runner, a being who can move faster than light. Because of this power gap, Thanos is likely to win against Jay Garrick.
2) Alan Scott

Alan Scott was the very first Green Lantern and is known as one of the Justice Society’s strongest members. He gets his incredible power from a magical source called the Starheart, leading many to believe he could defeat Thanos – especially since other skilled Green Lanterns have the capability to do so. However, unlike a standard Green Lantern ring, the Starheart doesn’t have the technology to scan for and exploit weaknesses. This means Alan would have to rely solely on his physical strength to win. Very few characters, even at his power level, could defeat Thanos through brute force alone, and unfortunately, Scott wouldn’t stand a chance.
1) John Constantine

John Constantine appears unassuming, but he’s incredibly resourceful and powerful. He often defeats opponents by being smarter than them, using a combination of magic and quick thinking to find and exploit weaknesses. However, this strategy wouldn’t work against Thanos. Constantine typically needs information about his enemies, or time to discover their vulnerabilities, and he’d have to delve into the vast Marvel Multiverse to learn anything about Thanos or the Eternals. Thanos doesn’t give opponents time to prepare, and would immediately overwhelm Constantine with force. Like Zatanna, Constantine is powerful but fragile, meaning even a small amount of Thanos’s strength would be enough to defeat him.
