The popular Final Fantasy 7 Remake became available on Xbox on January 22, 2026. This release is part of Square Enix’s plan to bring more of its Final Fantasy titles to a wider range of gaming systems.
As a researcher following the launch of Final Fantasy 7 Remake on Xbox, I’m really seeing some impressive results. Just within the first week, it’s climbed to become the ninth highest-grossing game on the Xbox US store. This new information further confirms my belief that Square Enix should have launched its biggest games on more than just one platform initially.
Square Enix has acknowledged that Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth needs to be available on more than one platform to achieve its full potential. This decision comes after sales for both Rebirth and Final Fantasy 15 fell short of projections when they were initially released only on the PlayStation 5.
Square Enix has seen great success expanding where its games are available. The Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster quickly became a top seller on the Xbox store, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth had a strong launch on Steam, and now, less than a week after release, Final Fantasy 7 Remake is climbing the charts on the US Xbox store.
If Square Enix releases the final installment of the Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy on PlayStation 5, Xbox, and Steam simultaneously – as they’ve hinted they might by ending PlayStation exclusivity – they could see a massive surge in sales.
Xbox fans eager to play Japanese role-playing games will likely have to wait until 2026 for Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, according to reliable sources like NateTheHate and Insider Gaming.
I always try to be skeptical of rumors, but I’ve noticed NatetheHate is usually right. He predicted both Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Final Fantasy 15 would come to Xbox, and it turned out he was correct – both games were released on the platform in June 2025.
Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is probably coming to Xbox around the middle or end of 2026. Until then, Xbox fans who enjoy Japanese role-playing games have plenty to play, with Final Fantasy 7 Remake now available on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox PC, Xbox Ally, and through Xbox Cloud Gaming with Xbox Play Anywhere.
Final Fantasy 7 Remake can be played on PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC. I personally prefer the PC version, as it supports amazing mods – you can even battle Darth Vader from Star Wars!
