Superman 2 Gets Disappointing Update in New Report

Superman 2 may not be as likely as we thought.

Currently, the Superman movie directed by James Gunn is being shown in cinemas across the United States. The film, produced by DC Studios and Warner Bros. Pictures, features David Corenswet as the lead character, Superman, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, and Nicholas Hoult portraying Lex Luthor.

To date, Superman’s worldwide earnings are approximately $250 million. Out of this total, around $155 million was earned within the U.S. market.

Although an official direct sequel to Superman hasn’t been announced yet, Gunn previously implied that related content might be under development. He recently told Entertainment Weekly, “What I’m working on does indeed have some connection…Yes, yes, yes, yes. But is it a straightforward Superman sequel? I wouldn’t necessarily say so.

What is the update on Superman 2?

The latest report from Variety indicates that Warner Bros. holds the possibility for sequels featuring actors Corenswet and Brosnahan. Yet, it seems a sequel announcement may not occur soon.

At the moment, Variety’s report doesn’t include any additional information from Warner Bros., as they chose not to provide comments on the matter.

It’s quite probable that enthusiasts of the DCU led by Gunn and Safran won’t have a prolonged wait before Superman makes his reappearance. The projects that Gunn is currently engaged with may hint at the involvement of Superman, while there’s also speculation that Corenswet could show up in the Supergirl film set for release in 2026.

If a new Superman 2 isn’t on the horizon at Warner Bros. Pictures soon, it might be some time before we see return appearances from characters like Sarah Brosnahan, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, Beck Bennett as Steve Lombard, Wendell Pierce as Perry White, Pruitt Taylor Vince as Jonathan Kent, or Neva Howell as Martha Kent.

Following the conclusion of the Superman DCU project, we’ll move on to a new venture: the second season of Peacemaker. This sequel is set to debut on HBO Max on August 21, 2025.
