A Quiet Place: Storm Warning Brings the Horror to the Midwest (And You Can Read the First Pages) (Exclusive)

The 2018 film A Quiet Place revitalized the horror genre with its unique and frightening story of a world taken over by blind aliens who hunt by sound – meaning survival depends on complete silence. Directed and co-written by John Krasinski, the movie was a huge success and launched a franchise. A sequel, A Quiet Place II, came out in 2020, followed by a prequel, A Quiet Place: Day One, in 2024, and another sequel is planned for 2027. Now, the world of A Quiet Place is expanding into comics with A Quiet Place: Storm Warning #1, and you can get a sneak peek at the first few pages right now.

ComicBook is offering a first look at the opening pages of IDW’s A Quiet Place: Storm Warning #1, giving fans the best preview of this new story. Written by Phil Hester and illustrated by Ryan Kelly, this addition to the A Quiet Place universe moves the action from New York to a small town in the Midwest.

A Quiet Place: Storm Warning #1 Is A Bold, Compelling Addition to the Horror Franchise

ComicBook recently previewed the first issue of A Quiet Place: Storm Warning and gave it a 4 out of 5 rating. While shifting from the soundless world of the films presents a slight challenge, the comic is a thrilling start with compelling characters.

In A Quiet Place: Storm Warning #1, the world has fallen silent after terrifying creatures invaded, initially targeting cities. The residents of Pearl, Iowa, a small town on the Mississippi River, mistakenly believe they are safe from the danger. While they hope to avoid the chaos affecting the rest of the country, the town’s fire chief, Lonnie Fry, knows the sound-sensitive creatures are heading their way. He understands that silence alone won’t protect them – it will ultimately lead to their destruction. This new comic series, from acclaimed creators Phil Hester and Ryan Kelly, expands the terrifying world of A Quiet Place, telling a previously untold story of fear, family, and the sacrifices they must make.

Hester explained to ComicBook that fans of the films or game will quickly understand how life would change if the creatures suddenly appeared in the real world. Everyone would instantly find themselves fighting for survival. The story, Storm Warning, focuses on how this terrifying threat would tear apart a close-knit small town, even causing problems within families. But as the story unfolds, we see that this struggle can also bring people closer together, forging even stronger connections than before.

What’s Next For A Quiet Place?

The next A Quiet Place movie is scheduled to come out in theaters on July 30, 2027. It’s expected to be the final chapter in the Abbott family’s story, picking up after the surprising ending of the second film where Regan Abbott (Millicent Simmonds) found something that could change everything for humanity.

We don’t have many details about the third A Quiet Place movie yet, but with over a year until it comes out, watching A Quiet Place: Storm Warning seems like a great way for fans to revisit that world in the meantime.

The first issue of A Quiet Place: Storm Warning will be available from IDW on March 11th. Retailers need to submit their orders by February 2nd.
