Honestly, as a long-time Coronation Street fan, I was already feeling for Todd Grimshaw, and things have just gone from bad to worse! It turns out his awful partner, Theo, has completely taken over his money – it’s heartbreaking to watch!
Earlier this week, Todd said goodbye to his ex-boyfriend and close friend, Billy Mayhew (Daniel Brocklebank), who was the only one aware of the abuse Todd was experiencing at home.
Watching the funeral scene really hit me – it became painfully clear to Todd that he was trapped, with no way out. What’s even more heartbreaking is that he’s completely in the dark about Theo’s involvement in Billy’s death. Theo basically left Billy to die in that burning van, and Todd has no clue! It’s a gut punch, knowing Todd is living with this loss and completely unaware of the truth.
Honestly, things got really bad at the memorial service. Theo gave a speech, but instead of offering comfort, he seemed to intentionally pile on the guilt for Todd. It was awful, and right after, they got into a huge argument – you could just tell this wasn’t going to be the end of it, and there would be fallout.

Today, the couple received a final notice from their credit card company. This relates to an incident last year when Theo intentionally washed all of Todd’s clean work shirts, causing Todd to miss a day of work.
George Shuttleworth, the boss (played by Tony Maudsley), was extremely angry and immediately fired him. This left him jobless for several weeks and relying on Theo for financial support.
So, from what I understand, he had to take out a loan to cover expenses, and he’s been having a tough time paying it back ever since. It’s a classic story, really – trying to keep a project afloat when money’s tight. Makes you root for the underdog, you know?

Theo was furious when he read the letter. He told Todd that if they were going to get married, Todd couldn’t be accumulating debt under both of their names.
An embarrassed Todd promised him that the matter was in hand, but Theo had another idea.
That evening, he proposed they open a shared bank account to monitor each other’s spending. Until the account was set up, he asked Todd to hand over his bank cards and cancel them.

Todd thought the idea was a bit risky and didn’t seem needed, and he was shocked when the scissors cut through the plastic.
To make matters worse, Theo then handed him some ‘pocket money’ to tide him over.
Will Todd ever be able to find the strength to bring him down?
