According to HBO’s CEO, the popular TV series The Last of Us might conclude after just three seasons.
In a recent interview with Deadline, HBO’s Casey Bloys was asked about the future of The Last of Us and Hacks after their third seasons. Bloys indicated that both shows likely won’t continue beyond season three, but the final decision rests with the show’s creators. He suggested asking them directly for confirmation.
The third season of The Last of Us is officially in development and will cover the events of Abby’s storyline from The Last of Us Part II, likely including the Santa Barbara portion of the game. It’s currently expected to be released in 2027.
There was talk that director Craig Mazin was considering dividing the remaining story into two seasons, and HBO’s Casey Bloys said they were letting Mazin decide. Now, it seems they’ve decided on a single, extended season to finish the storyline.
As a huge fan, it’s a little sad to say, but it looks like this is where the story of The Last of Us currently ends – Naughty Dog isn’t planning a third game right now. They’re focusing on a brand new game called Intergalactic, which unfortunately won’t be out for at least another year.
