A popular theory suggests that Robert Downey Jr. will debut as Doctor Doom in the upcoming Avengers movie, potentially taking over as the MCU’s main villain from Kang the Conqueror. Many believe Doctor Doom is the perfect choice, as he’s a powerful and well-known character who could immediately become a major threat without needing any backstory.
As a huge Marvel fan, one thing that really has me buzzing about Avengers: Doomsday is Doctor Doom. With Thanos, we knew from pretty early on what he was after with the Infinity Stones, and even Kang’s motives were brilliantly established by He Who Remains in Loki. But with Doom? We’re less than a year out from the movie, and his plan is still a total secret – which is honestly incredibly exciting and makes me wonder what surprises are in store!
Avengers: Doomsday’s Most Likely Plot Sounds Too Similar To Thor: Love And Thunder’s
Doctor Doom’s Plan Might Be About Kidnapping Children, Like Gorr
We don’t know much about Doctor Doom in the Marvel Cinematic Universe yet, except that he’s similar to Tony Stark and seems interested in Franklin Richards from another universe. The directors, the Russo brothers, have hinted that the early teasers for a future Avengers movie contain hidden clues about the story. A popular fan theory suggests Doctor Doom kidnaps a child connected to each of the main hero groups: Franklin Richards from the Fantastic Four, Cyclops’ child from the X-Men, a child from Wakanda named Touissant, a child of Thor’s named Love, and Steve Rogers’ child.
Franklin Richards is arguably the most powerful being in the entire Marvel multiverse. As the son of Reed and Sue Richards, he has the incredible ability to accomplish things that seem impossible – even bringing people back to life, something even powerful beings like Scarlet Witch and using the Infinity Stones couldn’t do. Given the events of Avengers: Secret Wars immediately following Avengers: Doomsday, his powers appear to be the key to Doctor Doom’s plan to remake the multiverse in his own vision.
A brief scene in the Avengers: Doomsday trailer, showing Cyclops taking off his visor to cry, might hint at a hidden story. The film could reveal that Cyclops is grieving the loss of his child, potentially Rachel Summers. Rachel’s powers as a host for the Phoenix Force and her complex background could be key to Doctor Doom’s schemes. Meanwhile, the roles of T’Challa Jr. and Love may be deeply personal, potentially causing division among the Avengers and weakening the team.
Thor: Love And Thunder Has The Worst Villain Plan In The MCU
Gorr The God Butcher Is Most Cartoonish MCU Villain
As a huge comic book fan, I was really captivated by the story of Gorr the God Butcher. It’s a dark tale – after realizing how flawed and uncaring the gods actually are, he decides the only solution is to wipe them all out. He goes on this incredible, brutal journey across time and space, systematically hunting and killing gods, destroying entire groups of them. His big plan? A bomb that will erase all deities from existence. What makes him such a compelling villain, and a truly tough opponent for Thor, is that his fight isn’t just about brute force – it’s a philosophical war against the very idea of divinity.
The movie version of Gorr feels like a much weaker villain than his comic book counterpart. Instead of being a terrifying god-slayer, he mostly tries to trick Thor by kidnapping children. He barely fights any gods, let alone kills them, which undermines his nickname, “God Butcher.” The biggest change, however, is that the movie’s Gorr relies on asking Eternity for help, which completely goes against the independent and vengeful nature of the character in the comics.
Kidnapping children is a predictable and weak plot device for a Marvel villain, instantly reminding audiences of simple Saturday morning cartoons. Because family movies avoid truly harming children, it signals the villain’s plan won’t be a real threat or won’t succeed. This is especially problematic for a character like Gorr, who is meant to be a dangerous and groundbreaking villain.
Doctor Doom’s Child Kidnapping Plan Would Need To Be More Consequential Than Gorr’s
Doom’s Goals For The Avengers’ Children Must Go Beyond Cartoon Villainy
We still don’t know much about what Doctor Doom will be up to in Avengers: Doomsday, so it’s hard to say how he’ll compare to other villains. However, Doctor Doom needs to be a truly powerful and impactful threat – even more so than Thanos. A poorly developed story or character for Doom could seriously harm Avengers: Doomsday and create problems for Avengers: Secret Wars. If the writers are looking for inspiration from past Marvel Cinematic Universe villains, they should focus on characters like Thanos, Loki, or the High Evolutionary, rather than someone like Gorr the God Butcher.
Okay, so if this whole thing about Doctor Doom kidnapping kids is true, it’s actually a pretty brilliant, if terrifying, move. See, it’s not just about having hostages. Franklin Richards is ridiculously powerful – like, god-level powerful – and Rachel Summers could tap into the Phoenix Force, which means she’s connected to everything, everywhere. Doom isn’t just locking them up hoping someone breaks them out; he’s clearly planning to take their power. He wants to use them to reshape the entire Marvel universe into his own twisted Battleworld. Honestly, trying to steal their abilities is way smarter than just waiting for the heroes to show up.
There are hints that the missing children might be connected to themes of death and rebirth. We’ve seen characters brought back to life before in Marvel stories – Franklin Richards revived Sue Storm, Rachel Summers’ powers brought Jean Grey back, and Love was resurrected through her father’s wish. Touissant is exploring ways to connect with his deceased father. And in a recent story, Doctor Doom seems to be searching for a way to revive someone he lost.
