Major 2026 PS5 Exclusive Won’t Be Exclusive for Long

A highly anticipated PlayStation 5 game, expected to release in early 2026, might not stay exclusive to the console for long. While PlayStation has fewer exclusive games than in the past, PS5 owners often get to play new titles first. Several games, including Marvel’s Wolverine, Saros, and Phantom Blade Zero, are currently planned to launch only on PS5 in 2026. However, it appears one of these upcoming PS5 games could also become available on Xbox and Nintendo consoles just a few months after its initial release.

Koei Tecmo’s Nioh 3 is releasing on February 6th and will initially only be available on PlayStation 5. However, a recent trailer suggests this won’t be a permanent restriction. The trailer indicates the game will be exclusive to PS5 for just six months, opening the possibility of a release on Xbox Series X/S or Nintendo Switch 2 around early August.

If Nioh 3 were released on Xbox or Nintendo consoles, it would be a first for the series. Previously, both Nioh and Nioh 2 were only available on PlayStation 4. While both games were later updated and re-released for PlayStation 5, the franchise has never appeared on consoles other than PlayStation.

As of right now, Koei Tecmo is only planning to release Nioh 3 on PlayStation 5 and PC. However, they’ve been collaborating more closely with Xbox recently. Last year’s Ninja Gaiden 4, developed by the same Team Ninja team behind Nioh 3, was published by Xbox Game Studios on all platforms. This suggests Nioh 3 could potentially come to Xbox as well. It’s still uncertain whether the game will also be released on the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2.
