The 2020s have already proven to be a fantastic decade for science fiction films, rivaling the creativity of the 1980s. Recent movies like Nope, Dune: Part Two, Tenet, and Avatar: The Way of Water have pushed the boundaries of visual effects and storytelling, marking a new high point for the genre. Now, sci-fi fans have another option: a critically acclaimed film from this era is now streaming on Hulu after leaving HBO Max.
As of February 2nd, you can now stream Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes on Hulu. It joins the other films in the reboot series – Rise of the Planet of the Apes and Dawn of the Planet of the Apes – already available on the platform. This 2024 sci-fi film, directed by Wes Ball, is the fourth installment in the series and the start of a new story arc. Set 300 years after War for the Planet of the Apes, the movie follows a young ape named Noa and a human companion, Mae, as they embark on a journey to save Noa’s family from a cruel leader, forcing him to question everything he thought he knew about the past.
Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes Successfully Transitioned the Franchise Beyond the Caesar Trilogy
The latest installment, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, proves the franchise still has compelling stories to tell. Taking place many years after Caesar’s reign, the film examines how his teachings and ideals have been misinterpreted over time. His famous motto, “Apes! Together! Strong!” has been warped into a justification for war, creating new conflicts that are both thought-provoking and full of action. Beyond the exciting plot, the movie excels at creating a detailed and immersive world, showcasing stunning, overgrown landscapes and following the journeys of compelling characters like Noa, Mae, and Raka as they navigate a world populated by varied and uniquely developed ape tribes.
I’m so excited for the future of the Planet of the Apes franchise! Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes was a huge hit – it made almost $400 million worldwide, and critics and audiences both really loved it, giving it great scores on Rotten Tomatoes. It’s already won awards and been nominated for more! The best part is, this movie is just the beginning. The producers have confirmed it kicks off a brand new trilogy set after Caesar’s story. We’re already scheduled to get a sequel in 2027, though they’re keeping most of the details under wraps for now. I can’t wait to see where they take the story next!
What’s New on Hulu?
Hulu recently added a bunch of new movies, including Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes. Starting February 1st, subscribers can also stream films like Django Unchained, the original Ghostbusters and its sequel, Mr. & Mrs. Smith, and When Harry Met Sally, plus many more titles.
