Nintendo Leak Teases Return of Major RPG Franchise on Switch 2 in 2026

Recent online leaks suggest Nintendo might be planning a new role-playing game for the Switch 2 in 2026. Nintendo has a long history of successful RPGs, including popular series like Fire Emblem, Paper Mario, and Pokémon. The latest information hints at a new installment in one of these well-known franchises potentially arriving later this year.

A new Xenoblade Chronicles game is reportedly coming in 2026, according to an update on actress Caitlin Thorburn’s Spotlight profile (as shared on Reddit). Spotlight is a platform actors use for auditions, so information posted there is usually reliable. Thorburn, who played KOS-MOS in Xenoblade Chronicles 2, hasn’t revealed details about the new game, only that she’s working on it and it’s expected to release this year.

If this information is accurate, it doesn’t necessarily mean a new Xenoblade Chronicles 4 is coming. It’s more likely we’ll see a remastered version or a “Definitive Edition” of Xenoblade Chronicles 2. Nintendo has already released updated versions of the first Xenoblade Chronicles and Xenoblade Chronicles X, so this would follow that pattern. Considering the person who leaked the information has primarily worked on Xenoblade Chronicles 2, a Xenoblade Chronicles 2: Definitive Edition seems like the most probable outcome, especially since earlier rumors in 2025 hinted at a game like this being in development.

I was really hoping this leak was true, but it doesn’t look like we’ll find out anytime soon. Nintendo’s Direct on February 5th is focusing on games from smaller companies and indie developers, so any news about a new Xenoblade Chronicles game will probably have to wait a few more months. It’s a bit disappointing, but I’ll stay hopeful!
