Ubisoft recently lost a long-time employee, Luc Couture, who had worked there for about 24 years.
This week, Couture revealed he’s leaving the company after a long and successful career working on many different projects. He’s best known for his significant contributions to the Assassin’s Creed series, where he helped shape the games as a level designer and design director.
Couture’s choice might surprise people, especially considering the big changes happening at Ubisoft right now. The company is currently going through a major overhaul.
Recently, Ubisoft cancelled several projects, including a remake of Prince of Persia. They’ve also partnered with NetEase, a large Chinese company, to create a new team focused on their biggest and most popular games.
During a major company overhaul, Ubisoft parted ways with Marc-Alexis Côté, the longtime leader of the Assassin’s Creed franchise, and he is now engaged in a legal battle with them.
Although Couture’s recent post doesn’t suggest any problems, the timing of his leaving will naturally lead people to wonder what happened.
I’m looking for a fresh start, so I’ll be joining a smaller studio with some experienced colleagues to work on new projects. I’m really excited about this change, so keep an eye out for updates!
