As a movie lover, I’m really excited about what Peacock is offering this February! They’ve added a ton of great stuff, from timeless romances like Pride and Prejudice to newer horror flicks like Speak No Evil, plus some original shows too. But the biggest highlight for me is definitely the remake of an ’80s cult classic – a dark, twisty mystery that I’ve been waiting for!
Peacock recently released a new series based on the 1989 cult classic comedy, The ‘Burbs, on February 8th, shortly after making the original movie available to stream. Like the original starring Tom Hanks, the series explores the anxieties and hidden secrets of suburban life. All eight episodes of the first season are available to watch now, so viewers can binge the entire story right away.
Peacock’s The ‘Burbs Brings an ‘80s Classic Into the Modern Day
Dante’s classic 80s dark comedy, The ‘Burbs, is getting a modern update – a common practice in Hollywood these days. Like the original, which starred Tom Hanks as a man worried about his strange new neighbors, the remake aims to capture the anxieties of suburban life with a mix of humor and horror, exploring the secrets hidden behind closed doors and creating a feeling of unease. This time, the story centers on Keke Palmer’s character, Samira, a resourceful and inquisitive wife who becomes an amateur detective after a new neighbor moves in next door to her and her husband’s childhood home.
The new TV show, The ‘Burbs, has a lot to live up to considering how famously quirky and outrageous the original movie was. However, with a talented team behind it – including Seth MacFarlane and the original film’s writer, Dana Olsen, plus writers from shows like Dead to Me and The Handmaid’s Tale – it seems likely to deliver. The cast is full of comedic veterans, like Paula Pell from SNL and Mark Proksch from What We Do in the Shadows. This version of The ‘Burbs updates the story from the 80s to today, tapping into modern anxieties, and includes fun references to the 1989 film that fans will appreciate. Plus, with all eight episodes available at once, it’s perfect for a binge-watching session.
Will There Be a The ‘Burbs Season 2?
It’s still too early to say what will happen with the show. Peacock hasn’t announced anything about its future yet, and we likely won’t get a decision about whether it will be renewed or canceled until more people have watched it and opinions have solidified.
