The Marvel and DC universes have both attracted talented actors, but many established performers haven’t yet appeared in their major superhero films. While some are interested, they’re waiting for the right role – something truly exciting. We’ve already seen actors like Ian McKellen and Karl Urban move from Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings to superhero projects, and now another star from that franchise might be considering joining the genre as well.
Luke Evans, while promoting his new sci-fi film Worldbreaker, shared that he’s never received an audition request for a role in a Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) or DC Universe (DCU) movie. He jokingly speculated that his roles as villains like dragons and vampires might be the reason. Despite being frequently asked about it, Evans expressed his interest in joining either universe, but hasn’t had the opportunity yet.
Evans expressed interest in the project, but with a few requirements. He explained he’d want a role that was engaging, complex, and had some comedic elements. He added that he’s always open to working in that kind of imaginative world.
What Could Luke Evans Do in the MCU or DCU?

Luke Evans has a history of starring in popular genre films. He’s known for playing Bard and Girion in The Hobbit trilogy, as well as Dracula in Dracula Untold. Add to that his roles as Gaston in the live-action Beauty and the Beast, Aramis in The Three Musketeers, and the villain Owen Shaw in the Fast & Furious series, and it’s easy to see he excels in these kinds of large-scale, exciting movies.
It’s surprising he hasn’t appeared in a major superhero movie from Marvel (MCU) or DC (DCU, or previously, DCEU). His closest brush with the genre was the 2017 film Professor Marston and the Wonder Women, where he portrayed William Moulton Marston, the creator of Wonder Woman, alongside artist Harry G. Peter, back in 1941.
So, what superhero role would suit Luke Evans? He’s got the look and experience for several major parts, though many of those roles are already filled. He’d have been a strong choice for characters like Doctor Strange, Namor, or Sinestro (who’s currently played by Ulrich Thomsen). However, some exciting new opportunities are on the horizon, and Mister Sinister in the upcoming X-Men films could be a fantastic fit for Evans in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Luke Evans could find a great role in the new DC Universe as a lesser-known character like Midnighter. With James Gunn hinting at a possible Authority movie, this could be an ideal fit for Evans in the superhero genre. Midnighter is a gay character, which would allow Evans to explore a more complex role, especially if the DCU also casts the right actor to play Apollo alongside him.
