The upcoming Prime Video series based on the popular God of War video games is adding the character of Atreus, Kratos’s son, to its cast. While the games have been around since 2005, this show will primarily draw inspiration from the 2018 installment, which explored Norse mythology. Ryan Hurst will play Kratos, a role that’s known to be difficult to portray to satisfy longtime fans, and now the show is completing the family dynamic by adding Atreus.
According to Variety, Callum Vinson is joining the cast of God of War as Atreus, Kratos’s son (often called “Boy”). Vinson has previously appeared in Prime Video’s Dead Ringers, as well as Poker Face and FBI: International. The God of War series centers on the journey of a father and son spreading the ashes of their mother, Faye. While Kratos isn’t naturally affectionate, the story explores their struggles with grief, and Atreus is portrayed as:
Atreus is a ten-year-old boy who was raised in a secluded cabin, far from civilization, mostly by his mother, Faye. He’s a skilled archer with a love for animals and a strong desire to explore the world beyond his forest home. After Faye passes away, Atreus is left with his father, Kratos, a man he barely knows and who doesn’t know him well either. Despite this distance, Atreus deeply wants his father’s approval and is determined to show he can survive in a dangerous world.
Joining the cast alongside Hurst as Kratos are acclaimed actors Teresa Palmer, Mandy Patinkin, Ólafur Darri Ólafsson, Alastair Duncan, and Max Parker.
