Please be aware that this article contains spoilers from the Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo manga. Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo is the sequel to the popular Jujutsu Kaisen series and continues the story with Yuji Itadori amidst ongoing conflict. Created by Gege Akutami (writer) and Yuji Iwasaki (artist), this sequel began publication last September. The story is set 68 years after the Culling Game and focuses on the grandchildren of Yuta Okkotsu and Maki Zenin as they face new challenges in the world of Jujutsu. The arrival of over 50,000 Simurians – aliens with powers similar to Jujutsu sorcerers – as refugees throws Japan into turmoil.
The manga shows that Yuji Itadori is still alive after many years, and remarkably, he hasn’t aged a day. Distraught by the thought of outliving his loved ones, he cut ties with his friends and went into seclusion. As Dabura and Yuka fight, Yuji unexpectedly returns. Though he doesn’t intend to get involved in the conflict or help the sorcerers, the latest chapter reveals his plans and brings him face-to-face with Mahito.
Yuji and Mahito Finally Come Face to Face in Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo

Yuji and Mahito shared a deeply troubled relationship, with Mahito consistently inflicting both physical and emotional pain on Yuji. Despite his strength, Yuji repeatedly lost to Mahito and was forced to watch the deaths of those he cared about, like Junpei and Nanami. Yuji eventually defeated Mahito during the Shibuya Incident, with crucial assistance from Aoi Todo. But before Yuji could finish him off, Kenjaku intervened and took control of Mahito’s cursed energy.
Ever since his defeat, Mahito has been trapped in a strange afterlife, searching for answers that may never come. At the end of the story, a brief encounter with Sukuna left him heartbroken to discover the King of Curses had different goals than he anticipated. He was able to see Sukuna because his cursed technique manipulates souls, and this place is essentially a leftover trace of that power – a pathway for souls to move on. Mahito also desperately wanted to confront Yuji and spent decades hoping the original protagonist would die, but his wish never came true.
In the seventh chapter of Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo, Mahito mistakenly believed Tsurugi was actually Yuji, even while Tsurugi was unconscious. The story didn’t reveal how Tsurugi perceived Mahito, or why Mahito made the error. As the manga nears its end, Yuji unexpectedly encounters Mahito despite Mahito’s previous defeat, and this meeting promises to have massive consequences for everyone.
Mahito Is Key to Solving The Biggest Problem in Jujutsu Kaisen

I’m so excited about what’s happening in Jujutsu Kaisen! It’s really tackling the root of all the suffering caused by curses. After Tsurugi went down, Mahito had a fascinating conversation with Yuji, revealing his plan to create a world free from cursed spirits. Honestly, after everything Yuji’s been through as a sorcerer, he couldn’t refuse to help Maru with this. It’s incredible that Yuji actually passed on Yuki Tsukumo’s research diary – she had the same dream as Maru! Yuki entrusted it to Choso before she died, and he knew Yuji was the one who could truly use it someday. It all feels like it’s building to something huge!
Yuji always having the object with him suggests he also wanted to break the repeating pattern. Maru has everything necessary to achieve his aim, and Yuji’s abilities will be vital to finishing it. Besides Yuji, Mahito will also assist Maru, as his unique cursed technique holds the solution. Mahito is initially overjoyed thinking Yuji is gone, but quickly discovers he’s still alive. The chapter closes with Yuji and Maru facing Mahito as they prepare to put their plan into action. The continuation of the story will be released as a short manga series, anticipated to last around six months and consist of no more than three volumes.
The manga is currently on track to finish in March 2026, and that’s why the plot is unfolding as it is. The story is building towards a world without curses, which would eliminate the need for sorcerers and the entire Jujutsu world, finally bringing peace after more than a thousand years. This differs from the original plan, but the author, Modulo, intends to resolve everything and prevent future tragedies caused by curses.
